I serve as secretary for an organization for SAHM. I was a SAHM during the time that I was elected to the position, but now I work part-time. I also head up monthly lunchs for moms and our kids and I am editor of the quarterly newsletter. I feel that my life is sort of evolving and becoming very, very hectic now that I am back at work. I want to finish my term as Secretary, but at the same time I am so busy with everything else in my life. I am thinking about resigning as Secretary of the chapter, b/c it has become a stressor in my life.

We have about 25 members and we have always had trouble getting members to be active outside of playgroup. There are people who show up to events, but never volunteer to do anything. It is a volunteer organization, but every year there are about 6-8 who hold the chapter up. It becomes draining after a while. I don't plan to renew my membership right away in 2007 b/c I need a break, but what should I do about my secretarial position for 2006?

If it is causing you stress, you should feel absolutely free to resign. As others have pointed out, you have done more than the majority do by serving as secretary at all. Since you cared enough to accept the post when you did, I'm sure you can trust that your reasons for thinking about resigning are honest ones. And once the post is vacant, someone else will step in - they always do.

I'd say it depends on how long your term is.
Ask around and see if there would be interest, if you can find someone to either take it over or help then do that, otherwise, yes, you have the right to resign. Being a mom is stressful, stay at home or not!

You have just found out what happens at all clubs, groups, organizations, churches, etc. A small group of people prop up everyone else.
I don't know how desperate you are to get free of this group but if you could hold on until the end of your term it would, obviously, be very beneficial to the health of the club. I hope you can stand it that long because they need you.
