Safety features
The microwave oven door should not be subject to any strain.
It should not be used often and also a bang is to be avoided. Any misalignment may cause leakage of the microwave.
Small quantities of food with low moisture content can burn, spark, or catch fire if re-heated for long.
Do not operate an empty oven as it can cause damage to the oven.
Keep at least five cms space between the back of the oven and the wall immediately near it as it allows the exhaust air to escape.
Do not install the oven near gas burners or near radios or TVs.
Do not deep fry in the oven as it is not possible to control the temperature of the oil and it may result in catching fire easily.
If food catches fire turn off the oven, remove the plug out, but do not open the door of the oven.
Keep the interior of the oven clean as small specks of food particles inside can reduce its efficiency.
Do not cook eggs with the shells as they explode.
Do not heat food or liquids in bottles with lids closed.
Do not warm bottles with lids on for babies.
Milk or any food for kids must be heated on simmer mode only.
Pierce vegetables and fruits with tight skin to prevent them from bursting before cooking them.

Microwave radiation all disappears a split second after the microwave turns off, so radiation is not a problem.
I don't buy that microwaves rob vitamins any more than cooking anyways. And some vitamins are better absorbed from cooked food than raw. And some people just don't like technology.
One thing to be careful, though: microwaves sometimes heat food unevenly. So you can burn the edges without the middle being cooked. Or sometimes the soup at the bottom of a bowl will get very hot, and could boil over when you take it out of the oven. So it's a good idea to wait 60 seconds before removing very hot liquids from the microwave.

It's perfectly safe if you follow the directions. Microwave ovens have been around for years with no reports of any problems.

microwaves only rub molocules againts themselves so that the food warms up. They are very safe as long as you don't heat foil or have open space in them (gap in insulation)

no, but if you do warm up something, DONT put it in something plastic. because plastic has dioxins (sp?) in it, which goes into the food. Dioxins cause cancer. but it only gets into your food if the food gets heated up in a plastic bowl. but what you typed is a complete myth, lol
