My golden retriever is pregnant. She was staying with a friend of mine while we were away and now, 2 months later, she has turned up pregnant! The sire is either a golden retriever or a husky(she thinks). I knew I shouldn't have waited to get her spayed until the fall, but I honestly had NO idea she was in heat! She ran away from the sitter and was missing for 3 weeks. Can't change the past now. What can I expect the pups to look like? If anyone had a golden retriever/husky mix dog, can you please send me a pic so I can tell the difference when they are born? What am I supposed to do now though? I can't kill them all! That would be criminal!

Petfinder.com has this to say> Golden Retriever,Husky mix
Notes: Although we don't have a picture of Montana to post yet, this boy is singing "There are no bugs on me, there are no bugs on me". He's the spitting image of the little pup on the Advantix commercial.

Yes, you should have gotten her spayed at 6 MONTHS!!!!!! Instead you left a unspayed female with total losers!!!!! You were gone A LONG time!!!!!!! If she was missing three weeks, the sire could be ANY dog!! Probably MANY dogs!!!! You may have a litter with many different looking puppies!!!!!

Get her spayed ASAP after the puppies. You really should have done it sooner!!!

And ignore Candy above me. Mixed breeds, when they are the offspring of 2 purebreds, are NOT healthier than purebreeds!!! Actually, they can be less healthy. The puppies can have all the health problems that Goldens are prone too, and all the problems that Huskies are prone to.
And if a purebred dog has a mixed litter and then is bred to a dog of their own breed the next time, the puppies are NOT tainted!!!!
The female produces a whole new batch of eggs!!!!!! That is a stupid myth!!! It would be like saying that you got pregnant by a Irish guy and had a kid, and then got pregnant again by a white guy but you think the baby will still have Irish in it. People need to really think before the spew this stuff!!!!!!!-

Since your dog was gone for three weeks, it is very likely that the owner of the sire was looking after her, hoping to keep her. I have had my males bring home females, including coyotes. You say (she thinks). Is this your dog telling you it was a golden retreiver and/or a husky, or the sitter? (Just joking). It is also likely that some other dog got in there, too, like a beagle or terrier or whatever, since they form a pack, then have a big fight, then take turns. I think they will be beautiful pups no matter who the father is. Please be very careful when you put these pups up for adoption, especially if they will be free, because a lot of times people will get a free puppy and then decide they don't want it after a short time. Please try to find them good loving homes.

If your dog isn't too far along, you might be able to find a vet who will still spay her, and abort the pups.... I volunteer for a free spay & nuter program in my city, and they do that with stray animals, and pregnant animals that are unwanted. There are so mant unwanted animals, it's so sad when someone lets their pet get pregnant. So many animals get put to sleep, every single day, because they are unwanted. Last Sunday, I picked up a sweet dog that was dumped at the ball field I was at. He was starving, and terrified. People can be so cruel.

Before people start emailing me and berating me... I am against abortion... But I am also against putting puppies or kittens in a bag and throwing them in the river, as I have heard of some people doing... or putting them in a shoebox and leaving them in a parking lot, in 103 degree heat. That was on the news last night, kittens... newborn... shoebox, on black asphalt... 103 degrees. The sun beating down, made the shoe box a LOT hotter than 103, and half of the kittens were dead before some curious person found the shoebox, and took the kittens to the shelter. Had that person with the pregnant cat, had the kittens aborted; they wouldn't have had to suffer and die.

Now... if you don't want to abort, or if you don't have the money to abort.... I suggest that you put the puppies in the newspaper's want ads, and give them away. Or, possibly check into FreeCycle... http://www.freecycle.org Maybe if you list them on the freecycle list in your area, someone would want one.

I'm sure a Golden Retreiver and Husky mix puppy would be gorgeous, and smart... after all, both dogs are beautiful & intelligent animals.

Good luck!

PS, here's a link to the kitten story, on last night's news.

mutts can make the best dogs!!!
they are more healthy!!!
huskys usually have blue eye traits. curly tails etc. if you have a pur golden..u should recognize pure bred puppys./ if not get a book. or go look at some. check news papers.
we had a husky/ shepard mix..he was gorgeous!!!! blue eyes too!!!
i suggest taking the pups to a local flea market etc..sell them for maybe $25.00. people usually take care of something better if they pay for it.
most likely the pups will be beautiful. a new breed ha ha .
best of luck.
spay your female when this is over. after purebred dogs mate with another breed ..ive heard future pups can be tainted./mixed. not sure but always heard it.
i had doberman / shepard mixed pups too once..a dog tore open my dog lot and mated with my dob. they were so pretty!!!!
i docked the tails at vet.
i got $50.00 each. all got homes. one i know of lived to be 16 years old and was always loved.
well good luck !!!!

Also know that a female dog can be impregnated by more than one male so you may have any type cross breed. But first thing make sure she is on a good quality puppy food as she is now pregnant and will need to be on a higher protein diet thru the pregnancy and lactation.Pay special attention to the amounts being fed(speak to your vet) as she will need more food as well.Start by looking for homes for the puppies now ,not later as it may be hard to find homes.Post pictures of the pups at your vets as well. Many people who have lost pets due to illness will call the vet looking for a new pet.Good Luck!!

If you are unable to take care of the mother and her pups you should sign her over to the Humane Society or ASPCA right now. She needs special food, vet care, etc. and if you can't provide it there are organizations that can. Those puppies will need special treatment too and will have a much better shot of getting adopted into a *good* home than if you try to do it yourself.

She ought to as truly be going via a pretend being pregnant... very complication-unfastened for canines to pass via that when a warmth cycle. Get her spayed (you deliberate on it in any case) end of tale. What recourse ought to you're taking in any case if an unintentional mating did occour? You cant merely pass sue happy through fact your dogs have been given pregnant.. actual damages could have had to be accomplished. It in all probability wouldnt be nicely worth it slow, cost and complication to tug them to small claims over basically no longer something.

If the caretaker lost the dog for 3 weeks, there is no way of telling what type of dog got her pregnant. after they are weened a lot of people are willing to take free puppies. you just have to put a listing in the classifieds.
