Well, Carlsberg is not too bad, but still an industrially brewed beer with too much marketing attitude. And it is of course hard to select just one beer as the best. Also, tastes differ with people, and that is good and makes life interesting.

My choice for the best beer in the world is "Andechs dunkel", a dark brown beer brewed by the monks of the Benedictine abbey of Andechs (the holy mountain) in Upper Bavaria.
Second place I would award to "West Malle", another brown beer of excellence, which is brewed by Premonstratensian monks in the monastery of West Malle in Belgium.
And third place goes to "Budweiser Budvar", the original beer with the name Budweiser (not the fake American one), brewed by the local brewery in the town of Budweis (Budvar) in Western Bohemia (Czech Republic).

I think that beer, like wine, cannot be compared apples to apples. You can't compare a lager to a dark beer.

You have to at least try the following beers, which are all good:

1. San Miguel Beer (Philippines) - San Miguel Corp is the largest food company in Southeast Asia
2. Hite (Korea)
3. OB Lager (Korea)
4. Guiness (Ireland)
5. Singha (Thailand)
6. Tiger (Singapore)
7. Zhuhai (Guanggdong, China)

If anyone ever flies into Cologne, the beer there is called Kolsch Pilsner. It is so nice, really quite light, like Peroni. I think Carlsberg and Carling are really quite foul, they taste and smell overly yeasty, and make me fell like I am only drinking it to get into a drunk state of mind, rather than enjoying the drink itself.

Corona, with a lime, in the summer. Theakston's Old Peculier (draught), in the winter. Guinness when you're feeling worn out and feeble. Black Sheep is good. Some continental beers, the goldeny ones you drink from goblet type cups, are lovely and treacly. Most local beers from sth of England are crap.

Ostravar! Comes in a half litre bottle, and Somerfield sells them 5 for £4! Easy to drink, doesn't give you the bloated feeling a lot of other beers give you, and it's got a decent alcohol %age of 5%.

Auld Reekie from the Rose St Brewery, Edinburgh.

The Clep, up the road from Tanadice in Dundee does a damn good 80/- too. It should be the same as other places but it tastes better there. I don't know why.

Terrapin Rye, brewed in Athens, Georgia. I once recommended it to a fellow barfly, and he liked it so much that he walked all the way around the bar to thank me.

If you like stouts, Guinness rules.
