All breeds are beautiful its just that some end up nasty by been with the wrong owners, it is never the dogs fault, I guess it depends on the sort of house and lifestyle you have, if you haven't got a lot of time to take a dog for a half hour walk each day then I would say a small dog that doesn't need as much exercise as a large dog would, but whatever dog you do choose get one that you want to spend a lot of time with because they get bored and lonely just like humans, staffordshire bull terriers are lovely dogs and make great pets too but they do need a lot of exercise, maybe you could go to the local dog shelter and see if they have something suitable to your lifestyle, I think rescue dogs are the best dogs to have, I know cause my golden retriever is so beautiful and loyal, hope you get what you want and enjoy.

Dear chriszed69,
Ask yourself two questions before you consider getting a dog. First will I be a responsible owner and remember that a dog is for the whole of its life and can I afford to keep it and make sure its needs are adequetly met.
Once you have answered those crucial questions then you can move onto what dog you would like. I am an animal lover and had two dogs. The first dog was a cross Rotveiller/alsation and she was quite a big girl and eleven when she died of mouth cancer. The second dog I have is a staffordshire cross terrier, another girl, of two and half. Both dogs (were) and are different in sizes and temprement. Both girls were treated no diferent from my own family-they were disciplined and loved and were and are the best companions I have ever had because they were loyal and my best friends.
Depending on the breed of dog you want is a personal choice but I do feel that a mixed breed is a better temprement and it has characteristics of both breeds in one dog. However you might go for a pedigree dog and can be very expensive and certain breeds suffer from different health problems, so do check with a vet or the breeder.
The smaller the dog the less less food and exercise it will need. If you have a female of course you will have regular seasons where you will have to keep her in unless you have her spade, which I did with both my girls. A male dog, unless he is castrated can also be a problem when he smells a female in season can run off. I have known many owners of male dogs complain of this problem-thats why they had them castrated in the end.
Whatever dog you go for make sure you have the right sized dog for your living space and when you meet the right dog your heart will melt no matter what breed it is. Just remember treat him/her right they will be your best and loyal friend and for yours and the dogs protection have them micro-chipped too.
Good luck from dream catcher

Staffies or staff/labrador cross make great pets. They really need to spend time around other dogs between the ages of 10 weeks to 16 weeks though, or they grow up disliking other dogs and will pick fights. Find a puppy training class in your area and go at least twice a week - terriers need more socialising than average breeds.
They are short coated so just need a quick brush every day, and are easier to clean up when they're muddy. They enjoy your company and love walking around with you but aren't hyperactive. And they're very loyal.

Staffs are lovely dogs, I've never had one, because I like the long coated breeds, but I know a lot of them and if well brought up, they are very good.
if you can't decide, maybe visit a rescue centre, and have a look at the dogs there,or just get a cross breed, they are unique, and also have less health problems... or another option is to go to a dog show and talk to people with the breads that catch your eyes, so you find out a bit more about them...good luck

It depends what you look for in a dog as there's loads of medium sized dogs. If there's a breed you like the sound of just research it on the net and it will tell you.
You would really be better going to a rehoming place, that way you're doing good at the same time.

The best dog I ever had was a terrier mix female named Finny. She was the sweetest dog ever. I also had another dog that was awesome who was a lab/german shepard mix named Bill. He's still around, he's got a great personality. If all else fails, just get a mutt! They are the best:)

depend what lifestyle you have if you work long hours etc, if you love jogging and walking going out alot i'd reccomend a springer spaniel they have bags of energy. but if you work alot and expect a dog to stay on its own for long hours you'd be best of getting an older dog from rescue etc like a golden retriever perhaps. you have to match the dog to your life style, this is a great website as you will have to read alot but you should be able to find which breed is best for you. one of the ost important decisions you'll make as most dogs live 8 years min. good luck

It depends on how your life style is. Try doing research on various dog breeds and find out which one suits your life style best.
Mutts(a.k.a. Mixed breeds) are good dogs to have, but ask about what the dog is mixed with before adopting or purchasing.
Beagles are nice dogs, but it depends on what type of life style you have.

Get a dog that you can afford to keep and not one that will eat you out of house and home. If in doubt go to your local animal shelter, or a re-homing centre for dogs like Battersea Dogs Home, Manchester Dogs Home, there must be one local to you.
