If you have moneys and you want to remodel your house, do it. Especially around kids' rooms. For example if your kid's room is downstair, you can have whole carpet replace, repaint the walls, add trims to corner of the wall, flooring, and ceiling, replace window, may even remodel couple rooms and stuff. The trick is to keep it drag on and going very slowly. Even better if you do it yourself :-) Think about this, how long do you think your kids could tolerate not having all their furnitures in bed rooms, not being able to use bathroom, not being able to sleep in their room occassionally, not having electricty work to run their products, can't put nails in wall, etc... This will drive them crazy especially if you keep talk about how you can't decide what to do and take weeks to make small decision. This will make it so unbearable that they will leave, maybe even in hurry.

Or you can simply tell them you're planning on connecting the bedrooms together to make it into a game room and if that happen they will have to share bedroom. They will NOT stay I promise. Especially if you add pool table and you or your husband bring friends in to play it in middle of night or while the kids are sleeping.

Are you making the accommodations too comfy for them to move out? If so, start charging rent, make them pay for groceries and help out on the bills, etc. There is no reason for them to hate you. They are adults and it is time they start acting like it. Good luck!

Well, first you need to grow a spine and then you tell them that it is time that they support themselves like adults instead of acting like little children sponging off of their parents. Of course, it may be too late if you are so worried that they'll hate you if don't allow them to continue to take advantage of you.
