I think that it's OK. More and more often, as people use shorthand and slang on-line, it finds its way into the classroom. People never bother to learn the proper way to write after learning how to write on the Internet. Correcting people's grammar is probably going to help them when it comes to schoolwork.

I correct people all the time when it's apparent they really don't know anything about writing clear, cohesive paragraphs. The problem with doing it is people who will pull out the books and try to find things wrong with what you've written, and then demonstrate they don't know the difference between spelling and grammar, and a typo.

Seriously, though. If you don't correct them, where are they going to pick up correct grammar? They don't pay attention in school, if they haven't left already. They're surrounded by people like themselves who just don't know how to speak English properly. Someone needs to teach them.

I feel the same way you do. I am constantly correcting people for horrible grammar and spelling. I think people should be more open to learn, and learn from the corrections.

I'm one who generally makes sure that my grammer and puctuation are correct. I don't think it's wrong to correct other peoples, I just think that if I corrected all of the mistakes that I saw, I'd NEVER have time for anything else.

No, not at all I do that same exact thing to people with their spelling. I know I shouldn't but I do I can't help it when someone misspells a simple word so I correct it if that person doesn't like it then that their problem.

I completely agree, but I usually don't say anything. I figure that if they don't care enough to take two seconds to double-check what they type, there's no way they care what I think. At the same time, if I see a very badly written question or statement, I tend to disregard it whatever it is.

If the person you are talking to hasn't gone to school or is too young to know that their grammar is incorrect, then no, don't correct them. If the opposite is true, then...correct away!

You are not a jerk, but it is somehow useless. Sometimes maybe they mistake because they want to type fast. Sometimes they don't know, but you should do it in a...good way, so he won't feel bad. I think you should correct them once, and if they manage, continue. If he/she isn't listening, don't bother.

It is OK to correct someones grammar, if it is constructive and (s)he is welcomes it.
Of course I will definitely not offer unsolicited advice.
