MarcelDev: Not sure where you got the impression that I didn't like the movie. I was in line with millions of people that weekend.

STUART R / DOUG LAWRENCE:
Whaddya mean there's no market for religious-themed films? Have you paid attention to Da Vinci's numbers this summer?
Oh yah, courageous Mel released a pro-Jesus movie in AMERICA. Yah, huge risk.

For those who call him anti-Semite: If he hated Jews so much, why would he choose to work in Hollywood, of all places?

There was no market for that type of film. There's not a huge market for that type of film, even now. A look at the box office receipts for other, recent, religious themed movies proves it.
Gibson simply answered the call he felt to make the film, and took a chance, based on his faith in God.
All the usually Hollywood financiers wanted no part of it. That's why Mel had to use his own cash for the project. God was his most important "backer".
Even if it flopped, Gibson likely could have used the loss as a tax writeoff, so it wasn't a total sacrifice.
But it was a great work, and it certainly did bring greater honor and glory to God.
I for one, am very glad he did it. We should all attempt as much.

I believe Mel Gibson made the movie because he is a very devout Christian, a Christian father who raises his children to be faithful, a Christian husband who is married to a Christian wife, and who believed that the world needed to understand at least in some way just how much of a sacrifice Jesus Christ made as a man for this world.
Just because a Christian succeeds in his profession and in his life doesn't diminish his faith. In fact, God wants Christians to be prosperous. In the Bible we are taught that poverty is a curse because of sin; the inability or unwillingness of people to work hard, manage their money and spend within their means, and the inability or unwillingness to be tenacious, determined, and consistent in their spending, their saving, and in their tithing.
I think Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel deserve a level of gratitude for putting their necks out there with a movie that FINALLY-----FINALLY-----answered all of the "devil" movies that have been made in the last 30 years.
Hats off to him.

Mel Gibson is a Traditional Catholic. He made this movie on his own because he felt the need to get the message out. He took a lot of hassling for his beliefs and the movie.

Actually, there was no way he could have known it would have been such a huge hit. All the big hollywood execs would not go near his idea because they believed movies with religious themes would not go over well. He just has very good judgement when it comes to movies. I won't comment on the latest news about him.

Mel Gibson is an out-and-out anti-Semitic lunatic. He's 100% off-the-wall nuts and obsessed with Jews.
Anyone in Hollywood with any human decency will consider him persona non grata from now on.
(As if that hateful inciting movie he made wasn't enough)

I think it was both, he knew there was a market & he knew he had the background to tell the story. The greatest part is that being a catholic, he can profit on something like that & if he feels guilty, just repent on sunday to the priest (That is after the priest is done with the alter boy- I can say this, I'm catholic !!!!)

Or because he is a drunk who can't stay off the road when he drinks and wanted to find an easy way into heaven by making the movie.....
or
He got tired of being Riggs from the Lethal Weapon movies
or
He didn't think Braveheart was epic enough.

Mel Gibson is unbalanced. Imo he's a chauvinist anti-Semite who has a subconscious resentment over not becoming a priest. He's not quite sane, but I like him as an actor.

Because he is a devout Christian. Just because he has a stuggle with alcohol doesn't mean his beliefs and love for God is lessened - it just means he's human and he lost the struggle against his "demon" temporarily - but he was man enough to apologize and admit it too - and I am sure he's asked God's forgiveness as well. Don't let a human's shortcomings (because we all have them) belittle their faith and your perception of their God.
