I have thick and curly hair as well. Ok so what I do is make sure I have a good conditioning shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. After I get out of the shower I put in a little curling/anti-frizz gel. Let it air dry or buy one of those caps you can put on during the night while you sleep to get rid of frizzy afro hair. Use a pick to brush out your hair. Curly hair is naturally frizzy. If your going to blow dry it don't use the hottest heat setting. I don't like hairspray because it damages my hair and leaves it supper frizzy after I wash it out. I think you can get away without having to do a lot of stuff if you have a good shampoo/conditioner and then some gel that controls frizz. Also you may need to go get the dead hair cut off so you can start with nice healthy curls.

Be gentle with it. Moisturize and don't use heat drying and styling.
Embrace your beautiful curls.
There is a method called Curly Girl that advocates conditioner only washing and never touching your hair once you set your curl pattern. You can get more info on line and the book is available at your local book store.

if you go to a salon in your town ask for a shampoo and conditioner called CURL LOCK it comes in a regular size bottle ( like regular lotions do)
when useing the shampoo go ahead and use the amount that you desire when useing the conditioner i would suggest useing LESS about the size of a quarter - scrub it through your hair really good and then do not rinse the conditioner out yet
wash up do whatever else you do in the shower - have a bath even and leave the conditioner in
rinse conditioner out i would not suggest repeating
once dressed and let your hair dry a little - not all the way just before it is throughly dried use PAUL MITCHEL SUPER SKINNY SERUM omg the stuff is to die for ;P
you can use anywhere from about the size of a quarter to about a half dollar piece of this stuff - it is AWESOME STUFF i love it myself
work this stuff all through your hair - i think you just want to let your hair lay loose but not so poofy - i would suggest working this product through your hair take a comb or brush and brush it through make your hair straight ( like you can when it is wet ) and run your fingers through your hair again to curl it back up
let your hair dry completly now - it will take longer to dry with the serum if you use even a little more it can give you a wet look :) - if that is not the look you want let it dry and take a look in the mirror if you like what you see you can even spray it if you think you are going to go through windy conditions :P if not let it be
i know you said that you did not want to use hair products but you really can not - life stinks huh but hey girl i just gave you the key to sexy gorgeous hair!!
enjoy :)

Using a moisturizing styling product like Paul Mitchell's Foaming Pomade will leave your curls defined, while leaving your hair touchable and soft. Your hair will be shiny and it won't feel dry and sticky like some hairsprays can make it feel. Foaming Pomade can be applied to damp hair and either dried with a diffuser or allowed to air-dry.

oh i know what you mean!!! we have the same hair!!! if i don't put gel in my hair, it's complete chaos! and poof!
make sure to use a conditoner EVERY time u shower, but avoid applying it to your roots. the conditoner will make your curly locks soft.
after your done showering use a serum...i hear Paul Mitchel(sp?) super skinny is really good...my friend uses it, and her hair looks great...Biosilk (it's a hair serum) works very well too.but i use Fantasia Frizz Buster. it COMPLETELY elimates the frizz...i've been using it for about 1 year now. scrunch the serum in your hair and let your hair air dry.
hope this helps.

Yes, you are lucky. A lot of people would love curly hair like yours. Talk to a hairdresser(s) and see what they have to say about keeping your hair manageable while still keeping your curls!

my mom has the exact type of hair! she has enough thick and (super) curly hair for TWO afroes! it will look really good in a ponytail. use curl control cream and maybe some frizz-ease to help with the curl some more...

Do some deep conditioning a couple times a week. Then leave in over night once in a while. It would help calm it down and tame the frizz.

Use a daily conditioner after shampooing (the kind you rinse out). Once a week use a deep conditioner. Let your hair be natural.
