It's wrong. It's wrong I tell you. I like wearing my hood on my head.

because if everyone in the school could wear hats or hoods some older people might get in and rape girls, steal stuff, and hurt people or even kidnap kids, its a way the school can identify people at least. Plus theirs usually cameras around the school and hats and hoods prevent them from identifing people when they do bad things- like vandalizing school property. Banks have the same moto to- no hats - no hoods. its for your own safety.

It seems so unfair, doesn't it? We should be able to wear what we like and/or express ourselves through fashion.

But just for a moment, please put yourself in a teacher's position. You're trying to teach all your students in an environment where everyone should feel safe, accepted and able to learn.

Unfortunately, clothing--hats especially--are used to feel superior to others or show gang affiliation. Other times, clothing--hats especially--get in the way of being able to learn without distraction (skimpy skirts or shirts or hoods that cover the ears).

Maybe in the area where you live, it's safe. But in many schools, wearing the wrong shoelaces or wrong sports hat can get a kid jumped and beaten up in the hallways. When a girl wears low-cut blouses that show off her b**bs, believe me, no one pays attention to the lesson!

Hoods cover the head and ears. Kids like to feel "hidden" underneath. That's understandable, but they sure can miss a lot of what is being taught. They're also a gang symbol. You can choose to be a part of a gang or certain group of friends, but in school, everyone should feel like he is a part of the student body. Have you ever felt left out of things?

I used to feel the same way about dumb dress codes. Gosh, why do schools have to dictate every little thing students do? It seems like they take away student rights.

But guess what? I'm now becoming a teacher. Boy do I see the other side of things.

Just be patient. You can wear what you like when school is out. You're only in school for six hours or so a day.

P.S. Besides, when you wear your hood, none of the girls can see how hot you are, right? (wink.)

there is no need to wear hats and hoods inside any building. Kids have not been taught at home so they see no reason why they should remove them. Etiquette says a person should remove their hat when indoors. My own opinion is that hoods indoors are uncomfortable and hats are hot and make a person perspire. The other thing is that hats should never be placed on a table (where a person would eat).

Paranoia, the school board officials think you may be hiding something. They've had too many instances where someone was wearing the hood or hat for bad reasons like hiding headphones, beepers, knives, and so forth. So we have to suffer for some bad apples. Sorry!!!

I asked my principal this question because it annoyed me. He said, because back in the day, like the wild west, it was considered rude to wear a hat in the presence of a lady. So I asked my principal, well what if the ladies want to wear hats? He just looked at me and walked away.

So, apparently they want to run schools like prisons back in the wild west....WOOHOO

Teachers think you are hiding something under that hood or hat.

They probably use the excuse that you might hide a weapon in it. The more likely theory is that it is one more power trip for the school administration. They gotta teach you how to be obedient to authority, especially irrational authority. Otherwise how can they prepare you for the Brave New World?

It's considered rude to have your head covered indoors. It's the same as "no hats at the dinner table".

Because you need to be identifiable on school property. Plus, the school gets to set the dress code and you're a minor. Grow up and deal with it.
