I suggest buying a flea and tick product called Frontline. It kills and repels pests for over 30 days on dogs. I used it on a very sick cat with biting lice and in 24 hours they were nearly gone. Unfortunately the product is not cheap but it's worth it to save your pets. Dogs can get lime disease and if they get ticks it's likely it will happen. You can either buy it from your vet or online.
Read the directions closely...Don't put it on your pet for 24/48 hours after a bath and don't bath them for a couple days after. This stuff soaks into their skin so they can even get wet or take baths after this period of time. Don't use any flea collars or shampoos after applying it or it can poison your pet. Frontline is all you should need.

if your vet cant do anything its the wrong vet.. Give the dog a good soapy bath, then apply the perscribbed amount of killer/repellant on the dog's neck. It only needs to be done once a season in most places.. Seargents is good. or the above mentioned, or whichever your vet has available,, they all work well and in the same manner..

some folks say using a match head to burn each one with makes them let go of the skin?
also some folks use [alcohol rubbing kind]and get a cotton ball dab the tick douse it actually to make it come out of there
other than that I would guess that pulling them out with tweezers will leave the heads in the skin and that isn't good because it could get infected
