Potty training a pitt is no different than potty training any breed. Make sure you bring him outside every hour and have treats ready. Make a HUGE deal when he goes outside, LOTS of praise and treats. Keep him in your sight as much as possible for the next few months because each accident that goes unnoticed is a setback in your training. When you do have an accident inside just pick him up and say no... bring him outside and wait a while. Sometimes they finish and then you can go the whole praise thing and sometimes not so just go back inside. Its very important not to scare them and yell and rub their nose in it and all of that, it confuses them and takes their mind totally off from the fact that they were just peeing in the house, but rather now they are thinking about that you are yelling and have scared them. If you stay with gentle "no's" and taking him outside during an accident he will learn quickly.

I recommend while outside you say something like "go potty" every so often and then when they do lots of praise. Eventually they will learn "go potty" and it helps them to associate it with outside.... its also great for road trips or times when you need them to go in a strange area.

It is absolutely true that you must catch him in the act... if you stumble upon an accident you cannot reprimand him, he wont know what your talking about. Sometimes people think that the dog looks guilty, but they just look like that because they can sense that your mad... that somethings not right... but believe me they do not associate it with the accident. Thats why keeping him in your sights at all times until trained helps a ton. Some people just connect them to them with a leash. Some dogs take longer than others, just stay patient and consistent.

keep your puppy in a newspaper lined crate with toys to occupy him when you are not at home. Then, when you are at home watch him closely and every time you notice him sniffing to find a spot to go or when he's about to squat pick him up right away while saying "no inside". Then take him outside where he can go and tell him "go potty", when he does praise him lavishly and maybe even give him a treat.NEVER hit him when he has an accident indoors. Also, take him out at least once an hour when you are at home, this will lessen his chances of having an accident.
