It all depends what is the condition for the determination.
Imagine you have the egg like structure in your hand and you are allowed to break it and do whatever you wanna do with it. then for general nature of the egg of a bird will be it has shell and some air space at a corner inside that ball like structure. and there should be a ball of lipids at the centre fallowed by the protein layer covering it?
But if you are looking for more specific requirement for a bird egg for scientific depth this is not the answer.

After the bird has been sitting on the egg for approximately 7 days, go into a dark room and ever so gently take the egg with you and a flash light. Put the falshlight behind the egg and if u see darkness in the egg it is fertile.

Shine a flashlight through it in the dark and see if you can see through it. You will see either clear and then slightly darker material if it's a real egg that's nonfertile, and you'll see a baby bird embryo if it's real and fertile. If it's not real, it'll either be solid, or hollow and you'll be able to tell the difference. It won't look liquid.

why would there be false bird eggs hanging around!!?? Not sure where you acquired the egg from. Try candling it to see if you can see an embryo inside.

does your bird have a companion??????? if not it is plain yoke. my bird lays 15 eggs every spring without having a male in the cage. they are just yoke, her menstrual cycle.

Um...if when you shake it in your hand, you feel a shifting of weight inside...it will be verrrry subtle, though.

feel it. If it feels like plastic and doesn't break, it's fake.
