Just wondering if anyone knows the average lifespan for a Mini Dachshund.

They have a lifespan just as long as any other small breed dog if well cared for. Usually about 14-16yrs. They do have a tendance to become overweight and lazy, which can cause back problems, which dachshunds are already prone to. The are also prone to eye and skin problems, heart problems, diabetes and urinary tract problems. Most of which(other than eye and skin problems) directly corrolate with becoming overweight.

We had ours for 13 years before she passed away.

Definitely a toy breed. Stubborn but so adorable. Love to play with anything and anyone.
Because of the long back, children have to be careful picking her up. A great companion for older children.

Black and Tan
Red
Chocolate and Tan
Does this breed shed?
Yes
Special grooming needs:
Sheds very little. Bath once a month. Watch the toenails.
Daily exercise requirements:
A walk is nice, but only in nice weather, and it does help wear down the toenails.

I am not sure bout a mini dachshund but small dogs usually live til
they are about 12-14 years old

I had a couple short dogs similar to dachshunds and 1 of them lived to be 17 years old!

Gosh! Jenn I wish I could tell you....I've had really bad luck with mini's....both of the ones I had died early.....at two and three years.... because of congenital heart defects.
The Vet told me that it wasnt an uncommon defect in Mini's
But...they are the cutest...most loveable dogs out there. They love to burrow....under covers, cushions, laundry and anything else they can find.

bout 6-10 years for all pure breds... probs about 8 for a mini dac... so!! have fun fun!! they are soo cute!
