Just curious, I don't mean this as an attack on Islam. I just sometimes read other people's answers here on yahoo answers and quite honestly, I am weeping.

So, here is my question, for those who claim that "its just the culture" in the Middle East and thats why they stone people, why in non-Middle Eastern countries, where people aren't Arabic, but instead Asian for example, like in Malaysia, where homosexuals and adulterors are stoned, is it just their culture also? Why do both seperate cultures and seperate ethnic groups who are Muslim do this, and when they do they have the Qur'an in the other hand that they aren't using to throw rocks?

Also, do you think the average person who would say "oh no thats just the Middle Eastern peoples culture" would ever be able to put their finger on Malaysia on a map; do you think they have ever picked up a Qur'an and read any passages from it?

I was nearly stoned, when I asked if crucifying Jesus was a sin. ( they said it was his fate, his destiny, it's ok, he wanted it, he asked for it, it's his fault, his dad said it was ok, it might have been wrong, but it's ok now, read the bible, get a life jerk)...caw...

"Any Israelite or any foreigner living in Israel who curses the Lord shall be stoned to death by the whole community." (Leviticus 24)

There are literally dozens of places in the Christian Bible where stoning to death is condoned as a punishment. It's a part of our history. People were stoned in Biblical times. In the middle ages they were burned at the stake. In early American history, we burned witches. In later American history, Native Americans were wiped out and African Americans were lynched. Then there's the holocaust in Europe. Then there's ethnic cleansing in Bosnia.

Western civilization has been struggling with this kind of violence for thousands of years. We've progressed to the point where we don't stone people, but we're still slaughtering people with bullets and bombs.

Culture does not justify cruel violence. But if it's part of their culture, it's also part of ours. If our culture can progress past it, perhaps theirs can too. And since our culture still has a ways to go in eliminating our violent tendencies, perhaps its a bit early to be arrogantly judging the progress of other cultures.

What nonsense, stoning itsnt Arabic culture. It says in the Quran to stone and whip lash people who commit adultery. This was done in those days, I dont think its practiced now anywhere. Its an Islamic law, you can say

The fact that Malaysia did not do that before Islam came there, I would say it is the culture, if it is an Islamic culture. Islam is the reason.

But ask yourself this: do north american and european muslims (namely people who were born there, and perhaps whose parents were born there) act that way?

No, they don't.

It's also worth noting that the bible promotes stoning people, and other violent things as well. Yet, most christians in north america and europe don't act violently on account of what the bible says (although, some do).

It's hard to believe, but many countries are far less civilized by our standards than we are.

I think the real problem is that they believe that if you do not live the way they are taught and do not agree with their religion then you are worthy of death. Christianity might condemn them and think they are heathens, but most of us do not kill them just for that reason. It is sad that religion, which is supposed to bring us closer to god, is the very thing that makes the world destroy each other.

You know it's the American culture to bomb them into the stone age. Why can't they accept that?
