I am having a nutrition lesson for my third graders. We will prepare a somewhat healthy snack in the classroom (no ovens, but blenders OK). The kids should be able to help prepare it. It should also be something that they might like to eat.

Pumpkin Spread English Muffins
Ingredients:
whipped cream cheese
canned pumpkin
powdered sugar
english muffins
raisins
Mix first three ingredients to your taste. (We had a sweet tooth.) Toast the muffins. Have the children practice their fine motor/spreading skills then add raisins for eyes, nose and mouth (or any other design they want).

Make smoothies with a blender, some ice and bananas. Most kids like oj and bananas. A second one might be cheese and crackers, you can have the kids spread cream cheese on crackers. You can elaborate with the cc, but adding stuff but 3rd graders dont like stuff.

Maybe a chex mix with mini marshmallows instead of peanuts, Fruit smoothies, maybe Jello if your able to use hot chocolate. It could be cooling while your making the other items, or better yet Jello instant pudding made with milk!

Try this recipe-it's easy, somewhat healthy, kids love to eat them and they are fun to make. You will need circular crackers, peanut butter, mini rod pretzels and raisins.

Peanut Butter Spiders
To make one:
Spread one side of a cracker in peanut butter. Stick mini rod pretzels in the peanut butter so they stick off the sides of the cracker like the legs of a spider. Put four on each side. Put another cracker on top of the peanut butter and pretzel rods. Put a small amount of peanut butteron two raisins, just enough so they will stick to the top of the cracker. Place them on the top of the cracker like eyes. Your peanut butter spider is finished. Enjoy!!
(First make sure no one in your class has peanut allergies if you try this)

Try lettuce with chopped bananas and some melted peanut butter poured over it. If you buy a box of ritz crackers, you can put almost anything on those.
