I will be sending out save-the date magnets. Not only do they remind people to mark their calendars, but it also announces your engagement and wedding to anyone who is unaware. I just think it is nice to give people a heads up...that way they don't have a vacation planned or plan to go to a ball game a few months before and then whoops they can't attend the wedding. To each their own though, I know some couples find them silly, but I do think they have a great benefit. Good luck and congratulations!

The point is exactly what it is called...to let guests know to 'save the date' for your special event! These are especially good to send to people who will need to travel a long distance for the wedding or for a couple that is 'going away' for their wedding. In these cases some people, may need more advance notice than the standard 6-8 weeks that a wedding invitation is normally sent out, to make the necessary travel arrangements.

In addition to what everyone else has said, make sure that you only send out save the dates AFTER you have finalized your invitee list. After they receive a save the date, you cannot "un-invite" someone-- it would be EXTREMELY rude.

I have seen some brides send out save the dates when their plans are not firmed up, and then their friendships change and plans for the wedding change, but they are still committed to inviting people that they are no longer close with because they sent a save the date-- they painted themselves into a corner.

Save-the-date cards are just letting people know the date of your wedding, the invitation gives all of the 411 for the wedding, the location, the time, the date, etc...

it's a good idea to send them, that way your guests can put the date aside, and keep it open!

When we started planning my daughter's wedding, I learned alot since mine 27 years ago. Save the date cards usually are sent out if the wedding is over 6 months away. Some couples have a date in mind but no set plans, so they send those out to make sure the people who are being invited can put it on their calenders and "save the date" for them. It's just a polite way to say "have don't make no plans on such n such day" You can uses these for birthday parties too. They come in many styles and price ranges. You can go fancy or just use a postcard and dress it up with stickers from the dollar store....Best wishes to you, and I pray that you have many many years of happiness to look forward too! God bless us all.......

Save the dates really don't serve much purpose unless you're having your wedding around the holidays or on a holiday weekend. Most people don't have anything planned that far in advance unless it's a holiday. We just got married this past June and we didn't send any out. I think invitations are enough.

well save the dates are sent out three to six weeks before invites to let people know the date but maybe not where the wedding takes place. Then the invites are sent out with all the information.Save the dates ar great for people who have to plan for several months to geta day or weekend off of work and helps to make sure people don't have other plans.also it allows you to take people off your guest list who can't make that date,it saves you invitations which in turn saves you money.

The purpose, like many wedding "customs" nobody had heard of 50 years ago, is to generate money for those in "The Wedding Industry". Surely people who care about coming to your wedding can manage to mark their calenders or otherwise 'save the date' for themselves without you taking on this added expense.

We have an extended engagement (almost 2 years) so as soon as we booked our venue we sent out save the date's so that our family and friends could plan their vacation/time off well in advance. Ours is also right after 4th of July in a shore town so arrangements need to be made inadvance before spaces are filled.

I am not sending them out. I gave everyone my wedding website address and email them when changes have been made. Send the date cards are great for people who are very busy or very absent minded, They also go out in advance way before the invites do so people can plan ahead. You do not have to send them but if you know some people like that go ahead and order a few to mail to those that need them. You dont have to order one for everyone and dont need to be sent out to B list invites. They are for people you really want there to notify them not to miss it.
