I've never had one, but I've heard there's no way of mistaking it for something else. It's different from having problems coping with daily stress. Everyone has stress and problems with it at times. We're human. But a mental breakdown is when you've had such a traumatic experience, or such a stressful situation happen to you, that it causes you not to be able to function at all, so you feel like you're going crazy. Basically, your brain has had so much shock and stress, that all you can do is cry, cry, cry, and it's not normal crying. It's total incoherance. I've heard that anybody that's had one would know the difference.

I can tell you what mine was like. I could not concentrate, function at all. I mean if I did anything it was usally done wrong. I couldn't get up and get any where on time if at all. I couldn't and didn't shower, brush my teeth, take care of myself at all. It all started because of problems that I was having with my husband. I got so depressed I wanted to kill myself. I went to my doctor and told her I tried to kill myself,( luckly the gun wasn't loaded at the time) and I was finally put in the hospital for 19 days until I got better and the meds and therapy started working. I had just begun seeing a therapist right before my breakdown, I guess it was just too late for me.
I can tell you that after you have had one you know what its like. I had not idea what was happening to me at the time it was happening.
If you are having that hard of a time and feel like you are going crazy then see your Doctor right away and make sure you make a list of all your symtoms. You may just be getting depressed, which if untreated could lead to a break down. Please get help.
Talk to family members that you can trust and that will help you feel better. Talking is the best therapy.

Mental breakdown- you will just give the F**k up and you won't take care of yourself and you will ly in the bed for hours and know that you have to go to work but just ly there because you do not feel like ironing your clothes, bathing, combing hair or anything. I mean you will try your damn near best in everything for every f****king body and they just don't give a rat's butt. I know, I've been there and still am going through it!
Be Strong!

If you need to ask this question- then something is seriously wrong in your life & you need to seek help.Look in the phonebook for a mental health HotLine in your area. You need to talk to a person who is familiar with Mental health issues.Your body & Mind are just letting you know that something is wrong. You are not having a breakdown. You are intelligent enough to know that you need help.More then likely you will feel a lot better once you talk it out.

Be concerned if you have difficulty doing the things you need to do. IF you cannot be a good mother to the kids you probably need help. Just an offhand opinion is that you are not being kind to the children to remain in your marriage if it is producing such terrific strain on you. They sense the strain and it is harmful to them.
