Windows is supported by a company, and that company aims to earn money. But many people can provide support for Windows, because lots of people KNOW it. There are a ton of people that can help. There are many schools and colleges that teach everything that you would want to know.
Linux, on the other hand, is FREE. But if your company is using Linux to get work done, and run into trouble, technical support comes at a very high price. Specialized training is required for staff. So in general, WINDOWS is cheaper, since you can easily HIRE someone that already knows it.
Linux is also FREE because there is no marketing behind it. Marketing costs BIG BUCKS. The average person never heard of LINUX. So branding is an important issue. Microsoft enjoys a 95% market share, because THEY PAID for the marketing.
Some 90% of all new products FAIL because of a lack of good marketing. That is how the world goes 'round. You can invent a nifty widget, but if nobody knows about it, you are DOOMED. A guy that invents something CRAPPY can sell millions of them, because they invested in the MARKETING.

well windows is a product developed since the early 80's.. by a company..and is very well known and so on...
while linux is developed by a person..well..several(obviously) , it has a free source code and it has to be so cool and free just to compete with windows...maybe in a few years.. 2 or so.. it will be used more on a large scale..i have a good opinion about it..
all it needs is a simple and efficient way to use all the programs and devices windows can use( exept for viruses)..and it would definently have a better shot at competing..how knows..maybe microsoft will feel cold chills on their back and make windows better

Windows is a virus magnet. Linus is free because the people who wrote/write it do not paid. It is public domain. If there is a problem while the odds are that you will get better support then you do with Windows, it is not guaranteed. Cause it is free.
Mac is a well written stable system, where you can get support in person, and get excellent support overall. Better then any other computer I have ever had.
It has the lowest out of the box failure rate of any company and has more bells and whistles for the price then any windows machine.
Just remember, you get what you pay for.

I were wondering about transferring to Linux for the terrific 12 months. I have tried a lot of diverse 'Flavours' and that all of them look very sturdy esp Knoppix. Altho that is preserve merely imagine if each and each and every of the folk who use homestead windows migrate for the time of to it?Virus writers ought to have a field day with open source software.perchance evaluate operating homestead windows xp alongside a Linux 'distro' to commence with and be conscious the way you get on with it and then make your decision. Regards Rob

Linux is open source - basically made by people who have nothing better to do.
Windows is made by Microsoft (im sure you aware of that) whom have to make a profit because at the end of the day they are a company as aposed to some developer contributing to some prodject.
Windows isn't that vunrable compared to Linux - its just because most people use windows hackers create virus and the like because they have a high chance of getting through.

I fired Bill Gates 2 years ago, and switched to Linux. I like it alot better. With Windows, I got 7 viruses, and my system crashed! Linux is so much safer. There just aren't as many ways to hack a virus into the system. I love it! I'll never go back!

The only reason windows is vulnerable is because people want to find the flaws and search for them. I use both windows and linux and the only reason linux is cooler and more secure is because no one wants to target an OS that hardly anyone uses.

Windows is expensive because people and companies are willing to pay the price.
More people hack windows because the user base is so high. More users than Linux and Mac combined.

windows is expensive because it has developed as the standard over time, giving microsoft monopoly status, allowing it to sell its products for an inflated amount.
linux is free because it is opensource. meaning, anyone can download the source and add and improve upon it, as long as they make it available for free.
i love mac. not only is it the most visually-appealing OS, but it is also easily the most advanced and intuitive. it is, in my opinion, the best one.

It is expensive is because most of the people in the world use it. It is vulnerable because people are trying to break.
Linux is cool how many people use it?
