My friend is an awesome surfer. and recently she had an accident surfing. she was out in the water about to hit a huge wave when a shark came along with the wave and pulled her under. she lived, but sadly lost one leg. She had a great bf before this happen they had been going out for 4 years and now he broke up with her. he had always said he'd love her through anything. He broke up with her he claims because he just "wasn't that inlove anymore" well word spread that he broke up with her becuase of her leg!! Its not like him to do that. maybe he was scared... he was upset that she wasn't going to stop surfing after she gets her prostetic leg. who knows. she is really scared and sad right now and there is nothing i can say all she wants is him. what should I do?

Very sad.
There is'nt much you can do for her,but be her friend.
Just try to understand her feeling, even if you don't right now.
Some people just can not look at a loss of a arm or a leg or a baby part missing.
It is better he go's now then later.
It sound's like he just can not be around her that way, maybe he want's to be,but just can't do it now.
This is so sad,I did hear about some thing like this befor.
As far as her going back in the water where it happen, that's nut's I say.
What does she want,to die or some thing?
Make sure you fine out what she is thinking befor she go back in the water again or it could be to late.
She could be thinking of ending it all because of her boy friend.
Is her mother or father around there for her,if so please tell them right away, please.
I wish you both all the luck in the world.
There is more to life then a boyfriend, she can be almost any thing she want's if she want's.
God help her.
Take care,please.
Sharon.

That's terrible. She sounds like a very brave person. He was probably scared when the incident happened and now is faced with her wanting to go back out. If he truly loved her to begin with, he will be back after the fear subsides and he can think straight. If you are his friend as well, maybe you can talk to him and get a feel for what he's really thinking. That's a very tenuous position to put yourself in so don't do it if you and he are not really good friends. I can't imagine that after 4 years of absolute in-love commitment he would just "fall out of love". Either way, right now all you can do is be there to hold her hand. There really is nothing you can say that will "fix" it, so don't feel responsible to do that. Just be there as her shoulder to cry on. She is going to have to mourn for those things that she has lost and get through this with your help because he may not come back. I feel bad for both of them. You're a good friend. Be patient and be there. I think that's the best thing you can do.

Four years is a long time to be with someone and it will take your friend a while to get over him. Be there for your friend. Let her know you understand. You can't make the hurt go away but letting her deal with it on her own timetable will help.

She is better off without him. He is shallow and would have left sooner or later for any excuse. This is the kind of guy who leaves when a woman starts to age or has a serious illness. He is immature and cowardly.

I'd go to that guy and tell him.what a jerk he was for dumping her just because of what happend to his girlfriend.Because even though she lost a leg she's still the same person.that she was before that all happend.and then i'd bring him over to her and so he could see what he's done to her.and then i'd kick him to the curb for ur friend.cause she can do better then him.

She just has to go through it. No matter what the circumstances, breakups suck. No way around it.
Just be with her. Distract her. Subtly remind her that she wouldn't want to be with a guy who is immature like that and would just run.
