Aged 11 and 6 and after having a wee do not flush. Have tried sticking up posters in the bathroom. Have talked to them about germs and smells. But no. I go in first thing in the morning and gag on the smell. The 6 year old also misses the toilet 9 times out of 10 and hits the lid etc. I only have them for a few days, but surely at 6 and 11 they should both be able to use the toilet properly.

Should I just grin and bear it or retrain them in the short time I have them.

Firstly I would talk to their parents. That is terrible, most kids forget now and then but you can forgive that I think...What I would do while you have them is everytime they go during the day is remind them to flush before they go and then if they dont flush send them back to do it..... i think they will soon get sick of being told and hopefully start doing it off their own backs......Good luck babes and maybe you should think about a freshmatic thing for the bathroom too.....

its pretty natural, 50% of grown men probably miss 9 out of 10 times.

If they won't flush then just put one of them blue water things in to cover up the smell and colour.

People might think im disgusting but I generally do not flush after having a wee, it just wastes water. Ofcourse when the toilet is full of nothing but wee then thats going a bit far.... 2 - 3 wee's then a flush.

you have to make them go back into the bathroom everytime and stand there while they flush the toilet and wash their hands coz chances are they dont do that either. reward them after they have done it.

or make then help you clean the toilet out and ask them why they think the toilet needs cleaning and flushing. when they are made to think about it they will learn.

i wouldnt put up with it at all.

why have children to be rewarded for everything, this is basic hygiene. at eleven and six, they must leave the toilet clean , for other people to use. accident's will happen, but not flushing the loo, no way. so yes they do need to be retrained, and no punishment., just shown how .good luck

any time you see them going to use the toilet tell them to flush it,the older one should know better and listen to you.bring both of them into the toilet and show them by flushing the toilet yourself that they have to do this everytime they use the toilet.im sure they'l start doing it just dont take it all too serious, after all they are only kids.

Put any round cereal in the toilet and have them aim for them. That will help the missing the mark problem. Then tell them they have to flush them down so that they can play the game again. This worked with my son for potty training, I hope it helps you.

tell your brother/sister what the little monsters do, but in the mean time retrain them,

how embarrasing will it be for an 11 yr old to be asked every time he comes back if he has flushed!

just say to them what the problem is and it will be too embarrasing for them not to comply.

good luck

Bribery works. Offer them something they want if they can keep the toilet clean. A trip to the zoo, a toy, a picnic. Anything. Of course, they could have environmentally friendly parents who are saving water!!!!
