You probably won't be discriminated against. Especially if you don't make an issue of it. I don't know the religion of most of my soldiers, and I don't care. The only one I do know is my Mormon soldier and that's only because she's always talking about it.
I've worked with Muslim soldiers before and it was fine....

I wouldn't think there would be any discrimination against you. After all you are volunteering to defend the very freedom that gives you the opportunity to be who you are. There may be some ignorant folks who give you a hard time, but then again you could find that anywhere.
The military does have some great benefits. Really depends on what you are looking for. My husband has been in almost 10 years. Like with everything else there are some days it's good and some days it's bad. The deployments and separations are difficult on him and us, but we have and are surviving. (he's currently deployed) I suggest you do your research and do what is best for you! Good luck to you whatever you decide!!

You could expect alot of attention. Suspicion. Harrasment. Isolation. Questions. Questions about your religion. What it really stands for. Why there are so many fanatics. Why aren't you fighting America, too? If all you're joining for is the benefits, you're asking for trouble. What happens when it's time for you to sight in on a fellow Muslim with your M-16? Could you do it? For the " beneifits "? You'll forget all about those benefits when you're living in hell.
If you were Arabic you'd be more of an asset for your bilingual abilities but I feel you be marked and a weirdo. I did do 4 years in the Marines by the way. It usually becomes a tight family unit in a platoon. But some people can be singled out if they don't fit in. I don't know, man. The whole idea of the world killing off each other in the name of any God is absolutely insane. It makes me believe less in God but more in the Devil. Either way, it makes us all look like animals. I'd fight for my freedom and my family and mostly, my fellow soldiers but for ' benefits ', I'd work a part-time job to put myself through college.

There is a great need for pro-American Muslims in the US Military.
You should definitely apply.
As long as you do not espouse any anti-American or pro-terrorist ideas you WILL NOT be discriminated against. You will most likely be accepted as an asset.
Don't listen to the cowards young man, you have just as much or more chance of getting out of combat alive as you would walking down a street in a big city and coming out alive, most likely a lot more. And how you come out of it completely depends on how mentally strong you are. Be a man, think of it as a job that has to be done.

Not a good time to be a Muslim in the army. There will be very little tolerance if you insist on praying 5 times each day. You will have the right, but it will be very difficult. Go to community college for a couple of years to save college costs. There are plenty of sources for college money that will be easier and not get you killed.

Well there were clubs at the school i went too that was GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) and there will be your friends to stick up for you if someone would be that ignorant to beat you up over your sexual preference, and btw, high school is NOTHING like it seems. I live in the outskirts of Chicago and yeah some people got bullied, but sounds like you have friends? The gay kids at my old high school (home schooled now) had the most friends. its not like there are "clicks" only in lunch SOMETIMES. just stick with your friends and don't mess with nobody you cant take! good luck.

Contrary to what is popular opinion these days, we are not involved in a religion war. I serve as a Marine with a lot of Muslim people, I don't hate them, in fact, one is a really good friend of mine. I am of the christian faith, and we get along just fine. So join if that's where you feel you need to be, religion doesn't matter.

STAY OUT of the army, you can get scholarships, loans, work part time, anything but go to war. I went and when I got back everyone was years ahead in their career and they did not have nightmares for 15 yrs or have their wife see them curled in corner shaking with fear in the middle of the night . WAR SUCKS
