I believe Genesis shows wo(man) being closest to God when there was no killing, including that of animals. I'm surprised more Christians haven't picked up on this and tried to rebuild the kingdom of God right here on earth.

Dan Matzdorff, many interpret the kingdom of God as something that we as humanity needs to evolve toward. As for the forbidden fruit it very well may have been a metaphore. In any case the fact is that man & woman according to Genesis was closet to God when there was no killing. This was a product of their innocence. I believe God want us to find a second innocency of types. The world this would create could be discribed as the Kingdom of God on earth.

Sword / Lord, the eating of flesh can be seen as a concession not the optimum mode of living.

Seventh Day Adventists do lean toward and enocurage vegetarianism. It is not required, You are not doomed or ostracized if you choose not to be vegetarian.
Why? It has been shown to be conducive to a healthier life.
Mostly because it is part of what God originally intended and what will be when He sets up HIs kingdom again.
It is the original diet set out by God, not only for man, but for everything with life.
Genesis 1:
29. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Meat was not eaten until after the flood. It was at this point in time that God instilled the fear of man into animals.
Genesis 9
1. And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
I personally believe we need to be living as close as possible to the way it will be in heaven when we arrive. We are told throughout the Bible there will be no more death (this includes animals).
Rev. 21 4. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
We are also told the animals will not kill each other not hurt children.
Isaiah 11:
6. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
If this is what we are going to be doing in heaven ..... Why not start getting ready now and enjoy a healthier life?

Seventh Day Adventists ARE Christians.
http://www.adventist.org/
Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh Day Adventist Church:
22. Christian Behavior:
We are called to be a godly people who think, feel, and act in harmony with the principles of heaven. For the Spirit to recreate in us the character of our Lord we involve ourselves only in those things which will produce Christlike purity, health, and joy in our lives. This means that our amusement and entertainment should meet the highest standards of Christian taste and beauty. While recognizing cultural differences, our dress is to be simple, modest, and neat, befitting those whose true beauty does not consist of outward adornment but in the imperishable ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit. It also means that because our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, we are to care for them intelligently. Along with adequate exercise and rest, we are to adopt the most healthful diet possible and abstain from the unclean foods identified in the Scriptures. Since alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and the irresponsible use of drugs and narcotics are harmful to our bodies, we are to abstain from them as well. Instead, we are to engage in whatever brings our thoughts and bodies into the discipline of Christ, who desires our wholesomeness, joy, and goodness. (Rom. 12:1, 2; 1 John 2:6; Eph. 5:1-21; Phil. 4:8; 2 Cor. 10:5; 6:14-7:1; 1 Peter 3:1-4; 1 Cor. 6:19, 20; 10:31; Lev. 11:1-47; 3 John 2.)

Many of them are vegetarian because it's healthier. They believe as the Bible says that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and should be kept pure in all ways.
It's not a requirement - only about half of the membership is vegetarian.

When Jesus descends once more to Earth, then does God's kingdom here begin. We were closest to God before our ancestors ate of the forbidden fruit...Not the forbidden meat

We believe in vegetarianism because this was the original diet GOD gave to man.
We are NOT doomed, according to "whynotaskdon", nor are we scrutinized if we eat meat. We make the choice to be vegetarian. We are NOT required! By the way, I still eat meat.

We are not told to do that, we are told to eat meat. What could be clearer than the paste below..??? If God tells us to do one thing, why should we try to do another.. We are told we are in the New and Better Testament, then why should we try to resurrect the old one ..
Acts 10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

""Do Seventh Day Adventists lean toward vegetarianism, and if so why?""
No, they don't just LEAN that way -- IT IS A MUST;
They believe with all their hearts that they MUST keep all of the old Leviticus Laws as best possible in this day and age.
If you don't, and / or belong to their Church == you are DOOMED!
