Dedicating a child is simply saying that the parents will raise their children in a Christian home. The decision to later be baptized is the child's. If you'd like to give a gift you may, but it is not required.

No, you don't need to bring a gift. It's a ceremony where the parents publicly (if front of their church) have their baby prayed over my minister and congregation and dedicate the baby to God. It's not a gift-giving type of thing and if you're invited it's just because the parents would love for you to be a part of their child's ceremony. Dedication is the parent's way of "telling" God that since they were given the gift of their child, they then dedicate the child's life back to Him....for protection, guidance and love.

Infant dedication ceremony is where the child is named in front of friends & family and also in front of the God/Goddess. It is not purely a christian concept. As a high priestess I have done baby dedication ceremonies. There are some beautiful ceremonies for this.
As a gift it is usually the done thing on Pagan circles to bring the child something you have made yourself or something from nature.
My gift to my goddess-child was some ash from a sacred medicine wheel fire that was lit in places all over the world and I was honoured enough to have some of the ash placed in my own fire at home also. I gave him this as a symbol that he lived in a peaceful world. The Athame used to cast the circle during his naming ceremony was also left with his mother to give to him when he reaches a suitable age.

That depend on the Church you have your child Dedicated in. and in most cases if a gift is given, it is for the Child. In most cases a dedication ceremony is dedication the child to Christ and a promise from the Parents to help the child live a Christian life.

Its a ceremony where a child is dedicated to the Lord. Now this does not make that child a Christian, because the child is too young to make that decision, however, Hannah in the Bible, took her baby Samuel to the synagog, and promised him to the Lord.

No, there is no need to buy a gift, but if you would like to that is fine too.

We just had our 3 yr old dedicated back in October and it is where Jesus blesses the child. Mark 10 :16 says how Jesus blesses the children. We didnt have gifts as this is a dedication. Once you have your child baptised then you will want to go that step. A dedication is promising God and the congregation that you will raise and teach this child according to the life of Jesus and his ways.

Yea,..may sure you take a dozen pampers and a bottle of wine...can't have too many disposable diapers, and by the time the parents get time to drink the wine..it will classic and aged...lol (j/k)

A dedication ceremony is when the parents make a promise to God..that they will bring up their child in a Godly home/manner.

It is not necessary to bring a gift..it is your choice.(unless otherwise stated in the invitation)

God Bless the child and the parents of the child, may they live in God's will.

Infant dedication is for faiths that don't believe Baptism really does anything. So they jeopardize their children's immortal souls by not baptizing them.

But they still want a baptism party so they can rake in the cash and gifts.

For Baptism, I suggest a gift such as a children's storybook bible.
