She's one year old and i've noticed that she is a very poor eater. She is very skinny and her skin sags at the back by her legs. I gave her worm tablets months ago because that's what i thought it might be. She also seems to take ages to eat her food and she eats it very slowly even when she SHOULD be hungry. So what's going on?

Has she been neutered? If you mean that her belly sags towards her back legs then that's normal in female cats who have been done.

As for her food, could she be catching her own outside? Some cats do that a lot. Or is it possible that she's getting food elsewhere?

Our cat's pretty skinny at the moment but I think it's the heat, she just doesn't seem as bothered about food as normal (just like me in the heat too!), but seems happy enough. If you're really worried take her to the vet to be checked out.

Take her to your vet, that is the only way you can be sure of the problem and treat it correctly. You should take her immediatly, it is always better to treat it before it gets worse or permanent damage is done, even if she has already had this problem for months. It at first does sound like worms, but it could be something more complicated like a digestive problem. You may just need to something as simple as switching foods, or may need to give you cat medicine or supplements. But don't try to diagnose and treat her yourself, you could just make things worse. Your vet will know what the problem and solution are.

Firstly, cats and kittens should be dewormed every 3 months, and vaccinated regularly.

However i suggest you take your cat to a vet promptly, she may have a condition where her liver is not processing food correctly which may be due to a high infestation of worms such as a type of lungworm which could ultimately be fatal.
I'm presuming that your cat/kitten, had all her boosters and check ups by the vet at the appropriate times.....

It sounds like your cat could have an intestinal blockage, or some infection of the gut. She needs to see a vet instantly, as this seems to have been going on for some time, and now she really needs help/ very fast indeed.

have you taken her to a vet? If its been going on for a while its imperitive you take her. she could have worms that required more than a dose, she could be stressed, or generally unhappy, or it could be something much more concerning. lukemia and aids are obviously life threatening and need treating ASAP. I'm not saying that this is what it is but the sheer longevity of the illness suggests something that needs treating as soon as.

Good luck. hope your kitty is ok.

You really should take this kitten to the vet.

She's too skinny, and eats slowly.....perhaps she has a cancer or twisted bowel or a blockage that prevents her from eating properly.

Worse yet, she may have something like a small piece of bone stuck in her THROAT that prevents her from eating properly. Please take her to a vet as soon as possible, she needs help.

Go to a vet.
The over the counter wormers don't kill all the worms a kitten can have. She may have gotten more worms.
She might also have something wrong with her mouth or internal organs.
It is better to be safe than sorry.

she could have feline leukemia or she could also have a gum desease, mayb thats why she 's not eating so good, I would take her to the vet. has she had her shots? if not she could very well have any one of the feline virus's. Try A&D food provided by a Vet. and some vitamins.
