I have the misfortune of have been in the cult for 15 years now happily deprogrammed. Ex JW now
Because if you question the doctrine at all you are disciplined, and told you are weak in your faith, and are threatened under penalty of death by god if you don't ignore the obvious errors.
The JW are never wrong because they have the Devinne right to be so arrogant to believe they are the only religion that is 100% right taking ordered directly from god. Everyone else are just fools tricked by Satan ( all the other churches) Because they are smart enough to use a mis translation of Gods name.
So remember when speaking to one they are totally brainwashed and as far as they are concerned you are most likely already dead.
In some cases like family member who have not joined "the truth" they will pray they die so they can be saved.
Think I am joking? they are a lot sicker then you ever imagined.
This is so typical of those brainwashed by that cult. So hypocritical of them, they won't serve on a jury or vote but bruise their pride and they will go running to the courts, saying you are infringing on their freedom of religion, what about the right of free speech.
I know how they teach in services about all this anti witness propaganda, which there is none, well only what they make up to keep the sheep paranoid. Tell them to take their freedom of cult and give back every ones freedom of speech.

Jehovah's Witnesses ARE Christians, despite the claims of those who are ignorant as to who they really are and what they actually believe. Jehovah's Witnesses use God's word the Bible as the sole basis for their beliefs, not false, man-concocted dogma such as the trinity, hellfire, immortal soul, and so forth. Those teachings are completely inconsistent with the scriptures. The Jehovah's Witness faith is a restoration of original first century Christianity, before the great apostasy set in.

Asker, if you sincerely want to know who they are and what they believe, you need to be careful with some of the answers you are and will get to this question. Be quick to avoid the ignorant who label them a "cult" (they are not), "brainwashed" (again, they are not), or "non-Christians" (they absolutely ARE Christians). To get accurate answers to your questions, by all means look at their official website: www.watchtower.org.

Do yourself a big favor and ignore the ignorant ramblings of Oregon, who either is lying about formerly being a Witness, or just enjoys the lying slander about them he/she put in their posting.

The Jehovah Witnesses believe in many things. If you are a Christian, then I will tell you one thing foundational: they don't believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ (meaning Jesus is God the 2nd person.) In other words, for them, there is no such thing as the Trinity, meaning One God, Three persons as all Christians believe (as found in the Apostles' Creed.)

Not believing in the One God Three Persons dogma makes Jehovah Witness a different religion compared to Christianity.

At one time I thought they are just one of the Christian denominations. They are not.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe in Jesus and God and Heaven and everything, but they belive that in the time of the end (of the world) God(jehovah) will destroy all wickedness and take satan from the earth so that all who had good hearts when they lived will be resurrected into a perfect world. They do not belive that God sends people to hell to punish them, because God is not cruel. They simply cease to exist. Jehovah's witnesses use the bib;e as their main source of information, because It's inspired by God.

They belive that Jesus is the Holy son of God. but they don't belive that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one thing. They belive they're separate beings. And they do recognize That Jesus came down to resolve our sins on the cross so that we can talk to God through Prayer.

They do not celebrate holidays because of pagan beginnings... and I agree with everything Christina (below) says

Hi. For the best answer please contact your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. We do not believe in the trinity as this is not supported by the bible. We believe that Jehovah sent Jesus here to atone for our sins and that he died on a stake not a cross. We do not believe in Hell in the common sense. The Bible shows us that the dead are conscious of nothing. Thus if the dead cannot feel anything then they cannot be in eternal pain. The Bible teaches that all who die go to Sheol or the grave. This is sometimes wrongly interpreted as Hell as in a place of torment.

We believe in following the Bible. We don't go to war because we don't think murder will solve anything. We don't celebrate holiday's because pretty much all of them have pagan beginings which would basically mean that you are serving another God by celebrating them. We try to follow Jesus example - that's why we go door to door talking to people about the Bible. We don't back anything political because we are to obey God as ruler rather than men. And that God's name is Jehovah. If I missed anything you can just ask a more specific question next time. :)

Jehovah's Witnesses understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite

That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

Jehovah’s Christian Witnesses are unlike orthodox church members in their beliefs and religious activities and in a myriad of other ways. That which determines a Christian is not adherence to the popularly accepted beliefs of orthodox religious organizations or participation in popular religious practices and religious holidays. What does is meeting Scriptural qualifications. The apostle Peter said: “Christ suffered for you, leaving you a model for you to follow his steps closely.” (1 Pet. 2:21) One must follow the example Christ set.

Jesus Christ made himself thoroughly familiar with the Scriptures and lived by its right principles. He also bore witness to the name and purposes of his heavenly Father. “I have made your name known to them and will make it known.” (John 17:26) He stated that his purpose in coming was to bear witness to the truth. (John 18:37)

Christians of the first century followed Christ’s example by bearing witness to the truth, although this conflicted with the traditional teachings that were popularly accepted in those days. Early followers of Christ refused to adopt any of the philosophical beliefs or religious formalisms of the pagan Greeks and Romans. They knew that a Christian’s worship must be pure, undefiled by pagan influence. “Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?”—2 Cor. 6:14

Jehovah’s Witnesses today also imitate Jesus’ example as the Great Teacher and Faithful Witness of Jehovah. (Joh 18:37; Re 1:5; 3:14) “Go . . . make disciples of people of all the nations” is their Leader’s command. (Mt 28:19, 20) Jehovah's Witnesses visit people at their homes because we are following Christ's example and command. Love for our creator, Jehovah, and love of neighbor motivates us to do so.

Millions of people who are now serving God as his Christian Witnesses were brought up with other religious convictions; some even atheists. More than 6 million strong, Jehovah’s Witnesses come from all walks of life: doctors, attorneys, teachers, homemakers, bus drivers -- blue color, white color, and so on. With the help of Jehovah's holy spirit, we find the time and energy to continue to take His message of hope to all, hoping to find humble, honest hearted ones who are hungry for the Truth. Many continue to joyfully accept this message.
