What I have done is, I reupholstered my couch and recliner in camoflage. Also I made sheer's for my windows out of camoflaged mosqiuto netting. I rent my place so I can't do much with my walls but the livingroom has a dark paneling and the kitchen is done in a dark notty pine wood finish, I made specialty curtains for the windows out there with material that has cabins and squirells and bears and fishing scene's. Yes I DID IT ALL

I love your question, especially the part about "your better half". The theme here is totally Victorian. I love the gracefulness of the Victiorian era. The flowing drapes and curtains being 95 inches long, and wide open spaces. The hallway to upstairs has large open flowers, mostly a pale yellow-gold, tones of green leaves on an off-white background. The double-living room is painted deep grass green (my favorite color) with very wide molding at the ceiling painted a dull gold. I have 6 livingroom windows with 95 inch lace curtains and sheers underneath. Each bedroom has a different look with furniture from the past. Not to bore you but this house has the original intercom system still built in. We decided to leave it piped in because it's part of this houses history. Our downstairs bathroom has the old clawfoot tub and a large pedestal sink, all from the past. We were lucky in that they were both in excellent shape. To go with them we purchased a pull chain toilet. The ones where the tank is mounted on the wall. It's a new copy of the older types that used to be. Needless to say that this is a Queen Anne Victorian house. It seems to be my style as the possibilities are endless, so my decor is Victorian.
As for "your better half", you know, it's an excellent question. We have owned this house for almost 10 years and I am so strong at decorating in a Victorian style, something that seems to come easy to me, that I don't think I have ever asked him what style he really likes. Bless his heart, he just goes along with anything. You see, there is a lesson to be learned everyday and I just learned one. Thank you.

I had a decor until I let my girlfriend move in with me, LOL. Now the place is styled in "Early-American Garage Sale", as I like to call it. She'll be the first one to tell you that she has no sense of style. I'll back her up on that.
I developed an idea many years ago for retiring in a travel trailer so I could travel the states when I get older. I don't have a lot of stuff. Before we met, I was comfortably living in a studio apartment with room to entertain. What few things I own are of the highest quality, and I only buy things I really love.
When we moved in together we had to get a 2 bedroom apartment just to accommodate her endless collections. In a way, the whole situation is kind of amusing. Sad, but amusing.

We don't really have a "theme" but the upstairs in our house is mostly burgundy and dark green, with kind of the country feel to it. The bedrooms are pretty much whatever (my room is tropical, my parents is lavender, my sisters is flowers and such), but our basement is my favorite. Its completely finished, and its decorated with the woodland "stuff". We have the leaves and bears and moose and such. Decorating tip: I thought this was kind of cool...we went outside and picked out colorful leaves and dried them in a catalog. Then we framed them w/ mats and everything, and they made really pretty pictures! We also took some of the leaves and put them under the glass on our coffee table... I think its neat! :)

Kind of French/New Orleans style I guess. It wasn't really an intended theme, but that's what it reminds me of.
I just surround myself with things I like and things that make people comfortable when they visit. I'm not much of a decorator, so that's the best I could do.

I like basic colors...nothgin too far away from the white the house came with.
I hate painting and don't want to have to do it again when ready to sell the house.
I would like to live in a two story house with a huge front porch and rocking chairs to sip a cold beer or big glass of sweet tea.

Well before my husband and i got together he collected wolves and i collected indians. My great x5 grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee so i have always heard stories and been very interested in her/them.So now we have the indian/wolves theme in our house, which is cool because they go really good together. I have always wanted a log cabin too, they are so beautiful.

We like the woodsy cabin feel as well.
We have neutral furniture and dress it up with pillows and blankets that are woodsy -- we kind of lean towards wolves and trees... we have candles in a tray with rocks around it; I like it simple without overdoing it with alot of nicknacks.... so we keep the clutter down to a minimum, but enough to create the feel.
Enjoy!

I bought my house and am completley redoing it. I like a lot of
light and open space. I just sort of think out the ideas as I go
along. I just put 4 , 5X2 mirrors over the sofa and put little
box type mirrors in between those, and photo frames with
flowers in them. Everyone says it is striking. I like it.
I think what we like and what makes us comfortable is the key!
