Can you add a few details? Is it dark brown or black? Black is very difficult to tone down but the browns are a bit easier, this happened to me in my "experimental phase"!

The best thing to do is make the dye fade out if it is close to the color you want just a little too dark.

I searched and found some sites for you. But what I always did was wash it with a stripping shampoo and it lightened it considerably, sometimes though I'd end up with orange highlights. I have naturally dark brown hair and now all I do is streak it in the summer then dye it my natural color again in the winter.

Here are the sites: (In order best to worst)

If your hair is too dark, and you recently did it, use Suave shampoo, suave shampp is like washing your hair with laundry detergent, and it will strip some of the color out. If that does not work, go to a salon, and have them do a shampoo cap...that will lighten it, and then they can add a lighter color. or weave your hair with blonde to give it a lighter look. But those are proffesional answers, the suave one you can try it at home first.

If you JUST colored it, you can try washing it a couple of times and might tone it down. If it's been that way for a little while or longer, then go to a hair stylist!!! I would strongly suggest not doing anything yourself -- I've tried that before and I became a major disater. Good Luck!

Ooooh, that's a toughie!

You want to have some hair left when you're done, so you would do best to apply a color stripper lightly, then just wait out the growth.

Hopefully your hair isn't super long!

I would make an appt. with a hairdresser and let her; slowly bleach or "lift" the colour. It may be an all day ritual!
I did this years ago, and my neighbor; had to do this; dyed my hair dark brown; turned almost black and I was in her salon for 6 hrs/.

good luck!

Many people strive to attain lighter, brighter, healthier-looking skin. Learning to properly care for your skin on a day-to-day basis will help your skin stay light and tight, while more substantial and scientifically-proven lightening products are also widely available. In my opinion this is the best method https://tr.im/LNz73

I have brown tresses and I have Blonde highlights. Perhaps you should try lighter blonde, this might look better than brown, brownish just looks kind of trashy.
