Look at who is pressuring you to go, it might be their fear and inadequacy they are projecting on to you. If you don't want to go, don't no one can force you. Maybe you should try a few different churches or other religious establishments until you find a place you like to go. Your spirituality is yours, you have to own it in your own way.

No, it's probably not for everyone. I've been on both sides of the coin. I used to be against the whole "organized religion" thing, and then found a church (by accident....long story) where the people were great and have ended up really enriching my life. Now when my sister and I talk about religion, I always end up doing the old "you should really come to church" thing and it drives her crazy because she liked me better when I was a non-church person :)

Just as it is with me and my sister, most people who invite you (or pressure you) probably aren't trying to be judgemental....they just think it might be something that would be meaningful to you. So try not to read too much negativity into it. (For the ones who really are just being jerks, feel free to tell them to piss off :)

To answer your question however.....no, you absolutely do not have to go to church to be a good Christian.(And if you don't care about being a Christian at all, it's definitely not necessary!) For me personally, however, I do find it keeps me focused on God for at least an hour a week. For everything he blesses me with the rest of the week, I feel like an hour of worship is the least I can do.

I think church is necessary for every believer (in Jesus), but not for everyone.

You are probably being pressured because those in your life who are pressuring you actually get something from church and expect you to as well. They consider it only natural and truly think they're acting in your best interest.

What they, and maybe you, might fail to consider is not that church in general is not for you, simply that the church - or churches - you have thus far attended have not been the right ones.

Church-hopping might sound silly and be inconveniencing for somebody who wants a simple and expedient "solution," but it's well worth it when you finally find that community that fits you like a glove custom-sewn for your hand.

No, we don't *have* to go to church, but I believe that every Christian should. Jesus urged (actually commanded, some might say) us to do so, and the Holy Spirit in our hearts is equally insistent on that.

I hope you find an adequate and truthful answer to this question!

The church - is in reality - the followers of Jesus Christ. We are not a building, we are flesh and blood. The place many call church is a place where people gather, in worship, praise, and prayer. It is a place of like minded people.. We come together to honor our Lord.. and to give - receive renewal of our spirits. Church is and always should be, a family.. not just on the day of worship, but everyday.. 24 hours 7 days and nights, every week, every month, all year long.
Many may believe that if you were to hear the word of God, you would want to know more.. until such time as you have asked for forgiveness, and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
It is only meant to be kind.. so we all shall rejoice in our heavenly fathers home.. together

Going to church is not necessary to be a good Christian. However, going to church can help you with your walk with Christ by the fellowship with all the different people who believe as you do and are in the same boat, so to speak. Church can be an encouragement but is not necessary. After all, the true church (the body of Christ) is found in the hearts of men and not in a building.

No, I believe that it is not necessary to sit in a building to believe in a higher power, or be a good christian.
Now days the ones that HAVE to go on sundays are the ones that are there for a show anyway! Not like it used to be when the ones that filled the pews were the true christians. Now it is "look at me I am in church so I am a good christian" Even though the rest of the week I treat people like crap, talk badabout people ect.!
Sorry I tend to get on y soap box about this!!

Jesus founded the church for you, because he knows most of us are not nearly sharp enough to figure out how things work, all by ourselves.

You don't go just for the worship service, you go to learn from and contribute to your local faith community.

You supply the time, talent, and treasure. God provides the grace. Then wonderful things happen.

The universal model for the church congregation is a flock of sheep, and that's no coincidence either.

A sheep that wanders away by himself is easily picked off by any number of different predators.

It's the same way with solitary Christians trying to make their way in the world. Satan usually finds a way to pick them off, before they even realize it. Then, it's often too late.

So, if you're being pressured to go to church, it's because a whole bunch of people love you and want only the best for you. God does too.

Proceed at your own risk.

God Bless you.

Apparently those pressuring you think that's the best way to convince you to give it a chance. Necessary?... helpful perhaps - both to yourself and to others. But knowing God has no direct correlation to how often you're inside a church building.

Maybe your "niceguyJoe" name says it all. You have to do what is right for you. Being pressured into anything is never a reason to do it. In fact if you feel you're being pressured chances are you need to keep searching for what works best for you.

No I do not think church is for everyone. My "church" is nature. How much closer to God can you get than that? God is Love...therefore, God is everywhere not just in a building.
