He's about 25 or so and he's ruining his life smoking pot, which I just found out about like a week ago. I mean, he's not getting in trouble or harming anyone, and is still totally a cool guy, and I have never even seen him smoke or high (i'm only 13 and he's pretty protective of me, maybe that's why), and he's always helping me out with problems and always knows the right thing to say, and he even tells me never to get involved with things like pot and all that other stuff.
I want to get him to stop, but don't know how. I doubt he'd listen to his kid cousin. I just don't want him to ruin his life. He's got a great plan and is an entreprenuer, and I was 110% sure he'd succeed until I found out about this. I really have no idea what to do, because of my sheltered life I have never been faced with a situation like this and don't know anyone who has. I'm really freaking out here. What do I do?

You should talk to him and tell him how you feel. However, he is 25 and knows the health effects and that smoking pot usually leads to other drugs, so it may not doing any good, but you can never tell.

From what you describe, it doesn't sound like he's "ruining his life" by smoking pot. He's just smoking pot, and you are thinking he's ruining his life simply by smoking pot. Pot usually isn't that big a deal, despite what you may have heard. Let him go on the way he is. Chances are there won't be any problems.
The only thing wrong with smoking pot is that it is currently arbitrarily illegal -- and the penalties are disproportionately severe. So you can communicate your worry that he'll get caught with the stuff, but my advice is to be supportive in all other ways.

Trust me. Pot is not that big of a deal. To tell you the truth, alcohol is worse than pot. Everyone smoked a little pot here n there while they were growing up, you probably will too...maybe. But, reall, it isn't a big deal, i bet one day, pot will be legal. The effects of pot isnt as strong as the effects of alcohol, and the effects of pot only last about an hour or less, while alcohol can last longer. You cant die from smoking a bunch of pot...but u can die from drinking too much alcohol.
Let your cousin be, if you want, experiment with him. Just experiment, dont be a pot head. Lots of ppl smoke pot, executives..celebs..teachers...etc.

I grew up in a strict military family but my mom's side of the family pretty much all smokes pot. There's nothing you can do about it just make sure that you don't end up following in his footsteps

Talk to him about it. If you don't feel you can do that, then talk to your parents about it. Ask them to talk to him.
He's 25, an adult & can do whatever he wants to unless he's living at home & then needs to abide by the rules of the household.
You're on the right track. You already know what's right & wrong & you're behaving very responsibly about the situation you know about.
