THOU SHALT NOT KILL

2006-07-29 08:16:47 · answer #1 · answered by Iwanna know 1 · 3 1

An act of murder for murder's sake is wrong for many reasons. Aside from the fact that it is morally wrong to take another individuals life(I am not talking about the death penalty ,that's a whole other subject), it is against the laws by which we are governed. Your question is very broad. I would think that you know the answer and are just looking for other responses. I have had a murder in my extended family and have seen the results first hand. It is the greatest injustice one human can do to another, but there are always other people that end up hurting and having to try to go on living after something like that has happened to a loved one. The greatest reason of all is that the Bible says "Thou shalt not kill". This meant that one person was not to kill another person just for the sake of murder. Self defense and war are a whole other subject also.

It's wrong to murder someone because it is the premeditation of unlawfully killing another human being. By contrast, killing someone does NOT make it murder, as it may come about by manslaughter/accident or self-defense. . Also sometimes killing is a necessary evil for the preservation of good, such as in war... ironic though that it.

P.S.- for those on the 10 commandments kick quoting the ol' "Thou shalt not kill"... God is not mocked, do you think He would give a commandment and then ask that it be disobeyed? He gave orders to kill (not MURDER, yes there is a difference) those who opposed the Israel of Old, so JFYI, the actual commandment is "Thou shalt not murder." Hope that clarifies some modern misunderstandings.

Because you may not be the appropriate agent to take them out of this incarnation. When you take another person out of this life, but they still had work to be done, then you have done an injustice to those who would be taught by said murdered. Do you want to be murdered in another life? This is Karma, it's all zen.

There are lots of reasons not to allow lethal action as a component of polite society: Economic [Free commerce (going to the mall, etc.) is impinged when people are afraid for their lives]; Familial [When someone is murdered, their ability to support or care for their loved ones now or in the future is taken away]; Emotional [Losing someone you love is extremely painful, and to inflict that kind of pain on someone else puts you at risk of the same catastrophe]; Etc.

It's a part of our social contract that no one is allowed to kill anyone else. And when the government violates that contract by deciding it ALONE can kill someone, it cheapens life for all of us. The social contract against ending one another's lives should be held by everyone, in spite of the wish for revenge.

When you're not a christian. Murderous Christians, although very nice people, think it's ok to kill people who aren't Christians. Whether you're talking about the native peoples of America a few hundred years ago, or muslims of today.

The Fifth Commandment is "You shall not kill."
This obliges us to safeguard the life and health and physical welfar of ourselves and others. Mortal sins against the Fifth Commandment are Murder (the unjust killing of an innocent person); Abortion (deliberately causing the death of an unborn baby); Wreckless, high-speed driving; "Mercy killing," killing an innocent person who is dying of an incurable disease; Causing serious injury or death by criminal neglect; Sterilization for selfish reasons; Deliberate, excessive use of alcohol or drugs; Serious anger and hatred. You are only allowed to use force or to kill only in self-defense, when it is the only way you can protect life and when your life is being sertiously attacked here and now.

It is one of the most basic underpinnings of civilization. It is unacceptable to intentionally end the life of another. That is one who is not in the process of trying to harm you or some one else. If it were not so, then you would have chaos, or the middle East where revenge and honor killings have taken more lives than American munitions ever will.

Because when you take someone's life you are:

causing someone to lose a brother, sister, mother, father, grangpa, grandma, uncle, aunt, or cousin who really loves them

you destroyed God's precious artwork

you let anger get inside of you and push God out

you took a matter into your own hands that was not for you to get into to

you may have caused a loved one of the victim to commit suicide

Murder is the most abhorrent human act that there is. Self defense, if your life is in danger, and you kill someone, is not murder.

Wow, this has got to be the grandaddy of dumb questions. Ask your Momma how she would feel if someone murdered you?
Why is it wrong to steal? To rape? To lie? To cheat? or any other sin you can name.
Because of the harm it causes, of course!
