Some cts carry this habit throughout their entire lives, simislar to people sucking their thumbs. It is refered to as wool sucking.

The younger kitten was probably taken away from its mother too soon and wasn't weaned properly. As a result it views the older kitten as its mother basically and is trying to suckle it for milk, nurturance and so forth. The cat most likely won't grow out of this and it will continue to do this for the rest of its life. It may actually do this to you, and you will know it when it kneads its paws on your stomach. It is basically mimicking nursing behavior with you. Check with the vet to confirm this however.

When my cat had kittens and it was time for them to stop nursing i would separate them so maybe you should try and do that for at least 2 weeks to 3!!see how it works out!!good luck!!oh yea don't give in to there little sad meows of wanting to be together!!this might be the only way to get the kitten to stop doing what its doing!!

Kitten is probably confused..thinks that the older kitten is mommy. Lil one will figure it out eventually, and if not the older kitten will eventually push the younger away.

It seems that the young kitten was taken away from his mother too soon. In weaning, they will still suckle while eating solid food, and the kitten was just not ready. Get a little nipple and do it that way while continuing to feed him solid food (baby cat food).

Your kitten wants to be near another kitten for comfort....so when it cuddles, it sucks on the kitten as a security blanket!!

Yes, it is normal. A kitten still needs to "feel" secure. And whether it is its mommy or not, they will do this. I have a few kittens, and they go to a cat that I have. She lets them suckle away.

The older kitten is its mother. It is sucking the milk.

Many cats suck like this on into their adult years. It is a sign of love and affection and it carries over from their kitten nursing days.
