Not to sway your decision about a kennel. You have to be very careful getting dogs from kennels these days because of cross breeding. Dogs end up sick or messed up for the rest of their life.
I prefer you get a dog from a pound and preferably and mixed breed. Less medical problems from a mixed breed than a pure breed. Less medical problems less vet bills. Hmm wish i would have thought of that. :)
Good Luck to you.

If you are looking for a specific breed of dog, there are many Breed Rescue organizations you can go to. They specialize in one or two breeds, are volunteers, usually have the dog's best interest at heart (not the money) and will be able to tell you about the personality and interests of a particular dog you are interested in. If you don't care about breed, but just want a nice, safe family member, look in the local shelters, or again, mixed breed rescue organizations. We pull temperamentally sound strays from shelters, usually foster them withh volunteers, and many times work on basic manners with their foster dogs, too. An added benefit to rescue is they are already health-checked, up-to-date on vaccinations and (hopefully) spayed/neutered. The rescue organization can guide you to the best personality fit for you and your family, and usually serve as a long-term resource for all things doggie.

Best wishes, and please don't buy while milions die.

Adopt a dog from a shelter, they are so many great dogs waiting to go in a nice home. And you'll save a life too.
You can find most of the shelters in your area on petfinder.com.
You just have to click on "local shelters" (on the left corner of the web page) and then type your zip code.

One time I bought a Bulldog from a guy on ebay a really good steal for 500 bucks, but a week later I got in the mail a box with no holes in it, I was very concerned, I opened it and the dogs head was in it along with a video tape, I put the bloody tape in my vcr and the sick guy had video taped cutting the dogs head off while he was alive, he is in jail now though he used his real address and stuff on ebay so they were able to track him down.

a breeding kennel that u hav heard good things about would b best, although shelter puppies are good,2!!!! pet shops usually get puppies from puppy mills. puppy mills arent exactly the best place 2 b raised and the pup could hav a disease or fleas or ticks. i would go with breeding kennel, but thats my opinion...good luck with puppy!!!!!!!!!

Local animal shelter, rescue groups, ASPCA, SPCA, humane society, or that free puppy in the paper so that it doesn't turn into pitbull bait, or snake food. Good luck. I'm glad that you are trying to stay away from pet shops, as they get most of their pups from puppy mills.

Call the pound or local SPCA. They can refer you to any rescue groups in your area. There are breed specific rescue groups if you have your heart set on one particular breed.

don't buy, ADOPT! Shelters have tons of great puppies, usually for little or no money and they will already be fixed or get you a discount on getting them fixed.

Please concider a shelter dog. They are not all pure bred, but they are there. And even if they are not, mutts make the best pets anyways.
