How many people are going to respond to just the main question, and not read the details? People say atheism is a religion. Atheism is anti-religion. It is a choice on an individual basis. People say atheist are all this, or that. It is the same as saying theism is a religion. When muslims do something bad, it is part of theism, so it is the christians fault to. Each atheist is the same as each individual religion, because we have different beliefs. Like each religion is a different part of theism. So next time you call atheism a religion, remember that by that logic, all theists are the same religion. A side from the fact that calling atheism a religion is rediculous.

And if atheism is a religion, then why tell people to get out of the religion section if they are atheist?

NO, NO. singlemommy770 .

Number four says spiritual leader, and atheists do not have one, and most do not believe in spirits.

I believe in eating cake, and practice it. That is not a religion.

WHYNOTASKDON.

Your answers are in this case wrong, and are as in this case most of the time off topic. You like to state opinions and do not consider the question or fact. I ask you kindly, in the name of your god to never answer my questions again.

"a" = not; "theism" = religious. Atheists are not anti-religion by definition, simply not religious.

If the basis of 'religion' means to believe in 'something' and to 'practice' that belief, then atheism would also be a religion, since 'no decision is still a decision'.

I didn't tell anyone to leave this section, I ENJOY hearing others views, and not ASSUMING that I KNOW everything or have all the answers and that nothing outside of what I know or think could possibly be true.

If you look up religion in the dictionary it says............

re·li·gion

NOUN:

1.Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2.A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
3.The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
4.A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
5.A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

So if you go with Number 4 A set of Beliefs then atheism is a religion because it is a set of beliefs that there is no creator or supreme being so in a way atheism is a religion.

But I also get your point. They are just trying to tell you that religion isn't something that they believe.

Atheism is a belief, not a religion. You BELIEVE there is no god. Just because it isn't a religion doesn't mean you can't be in the religion section though, as the absense of religion is part of the religious spectrum. It's like saying someone who's never played or seen a game of baseball can't ask a question in the section.

I brush my teeth 'religiously! I check my mail 'religiously'! I avoid bible thumpers religiously! I do many things 'religiously, and it has nothing to do with theism or Gods. Atheism is a religion in that it religiously denies your Gods . And you do not dictate the religious content of this section as long as the 'religious ' content is pertinent to the question.

Example, I may not be a stockholder or have any thing to invest, but I certainly have a right to answer a question in the Investing section.
Quit splitting hairs! You'll just end up with split ends!

The dictionary defins "Religion" as:
Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.

And defines "Atheist" as:
One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God, gods, or any entity with supernatural powers.

Since the Atheist does not believe in God and the supernatural, this would not allow Atheism to be called a Religion since it is NOT based on the teachings of a "spiritual" leader.

Strong Atheism requires just as much irrational beliefs as people who believe in God. This form of Atheism says that there is definitely No God. And since there is no evidence that there is a God, and also no evidence that there is not a God, it requires a type of belief that is religious in nation.

Most atheists are agnostic athiests -- the inability to know God means that there is probably not one.

They call it a religion because just LIKE religion, it is a Belief Without Proof. People in the United States seem to have lost that capacity to use language with precision, and it has led to a coarsening of public discourse.

all a religion is is a system of beliefs. Atheists have a belief structure that does not include god, but it is nonetheless a belief structure. Atheism is a religion, whether it fits in your little boxed view of reality or not

Nope. you're perplexing church and faith. Atheism isn't a church, this is the absence thereof, despite if this is a faith. faith (as a straight forward noun) isn't something extra or below a set of ideals grounded upon an thought which isn't falsifiable. Neither theism nor atheism is falsifiable.

They're idiots, that's why.
Atheism is the rejection of the childish and inane notion of a supernatural being. Any supernatural being.
An atheist that says they don't believe in god but believes in ghosts or angels is not an atheist.
As none of these beings can exist outside of the human imagination.
