Traffic fines are for one thing only: To generate the maximum income for the city, state, etc. It is not tied to justice or anything else other than income. The fine for a car pool violation is higher than the average fine for a first time offense for petty theft or second degree burglary.
A definite scam. And a definite money generator for the courts, police and localities.

SemiMBA hit the nail on the head. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT about justice or making the roads safer. Now, in this state (Illinois-and I'm certain everywhere else) they have cameras that take a picture of a supposed violation at strategic points, record the license plate and MAIL a ticket to the OWNER OF THE CAR!!!! Of course these cameras are positioned "to catch the maximum number of violators". (If it's a problem area why don't they fix the problem?)About a month ago the mayors aide bragged NOT how it cut down on accidents but HOW MUCH MONEY it made!! He RAVED about what a success it is (and I'm SURE he's itching to put up MORE cameras) They might as well say "Yeah, WE want to improve road safety--just send us your money and shut up!!"

3 times. 1.) In Chillicothe Oh I was parked on an exit ramp taking a nap over the steering wheel of my semi. The cop said I had just pulled off and wrote me up for 69 in a 55. Right. 2.) London Oh cop said I was doing 66 in a 55. Ummm..That truck was governed at 64. The fact I was only doing 57 is not important I guess 3.) A SUV did a suicide dive at my right side in Ringgold GA. I swerved left which put me in the left lane of travel. "That'll be $120 boy. Trucks ain't allowed in the left lane in this here stay, boy."

Anyone who has ever received a traffic ticket feels it was unreasonable.
Everyone feels the fine and punishment was wrong.
Everyone feels they are a good driver and that the police should spend more time catching real crooks.
That's basically the realism of how we look at these things.

Once, I was being tailgated by the highway patrol on a two lane highway on a dark night. I sped up to put space between myself and the car. As soon as I eccellerated 11 miles over the speed limit the lights came on. I hope Karma has already got the guy that wrote me a ticket.

i've never gotten fined, but i did get pulled over once when i hadnt broken any laws. the cop didnt even ask for license/ins/registration. he just yelled at me for 10 min about how cars were more dangerous than the gun he was wearing and putting me down for driving my parents' car. i was only 17 at the time and i dont think cops should be allowed to harrass you like that.
