Do you have to have been in love to get your heart broken, or can someone break your heart even if you're not in love with them? And i don't mean just having your feelings hurt, cuz plenty of people have hurt my feelings, but i've only had my heart broken once. And i'm not sure if i loved the guy, i think i did.........can you help me out? : (

It is possible to have your heart broken without ever having been 'in love' with the person.
For example, a death in the family is a truly heartbreaking experience.
However, if you are not sure whether or not you were in love with this particular man, then you probably weren't.
So I suggest, instead of trying to figure out your feelings for someone that is already long gone (a little late),
you need to attempt to move on.
I know...I do, that heart break is serious and legitimate and it seems impossible that it could ever be healed at the time.
But it will, and you will be fine.
What you need to do is focus on other aspects of your life.
Put romance to rest for now.
Take care!

No you do not have to be in love to get your heart broke. Just extremely love for a person is enough to break your heart. And yes there is a difference in the 2.
Best of Luck.

Getting your heart broken is almost the same as saying you got your feelings hurt. It just hurts more.
If this happend recently and you still have feelings for him, then it MIGHT be love. And if he broke up with you and went with someone else almost immediately, then with your love you might be able to get him back. But if no feelings are felt for him anymore, then it was not love.

If you are not sure whether you loved this guy, how is anyone else supposed to know??? I would say that you would have to have been in love with this guy to have a broken heart over him. Just keep in mind that time heals all wounds. Get out, go out with your friends, volunteer, whatever.... Help out at a seniors home. Whatever...

well, i agree with some of the others. u don't have to love someone to have your heart broken by them. a death in the family or of a pet can break someone's heart.
but,... i don't really know. u can have your heart broken if u put all of your trust in someone and they do something to make u lose that trust. that may be it.
i hope this answer was helpful. ^ ^

some people get 'their heart broken' from a crush if someone rejects them. It may be love and may not be love, everyone gets a broken heart.

A parent or best friend or even a pet can break your heart.
Your heart is broken by someone not meeting your expectations and hurting your ego.

when a relationship doesnt work out, most times it just mean that both of you are not compatible- he is not the one for you. It took me 2 failed relationships to find my true love. One cheats one me, and the other just dont give me the security. But that didnt stop me from loving. The world is so big, there will be the JUST ONE for you. Dont give up.
