No. In addition to being disgusting, it is abnormal. Ask your vet for advice for discouraging this.

I have worked at a animal shiltter and alot of the cats sleep in the litter box. It seems they are uncomfortable or something if it's a new cat i could unerstand it. But maybe just try to get a bed like the litter box and put a blanket in it or something that may work. Hope that helps.

It is normal for a scared or uncomfortable cat to hide in their litter box, and if they hide in there for any length of time, they are likely to fall asleep. However, this can be corrected.

When I worked at a humane society, the cats who had a shoebox with a blanket to sleep in slept in that, but those that only had a blanket slept in their litter box. Does your cat have a bed or even just a blanket-lined box to sleep in? If not, you should think about getting one.

If the litter box is covered, it may be that the cat really prefers privacy. A closed box with a hole cut in the side large enough for the cat to go in and out should solve this problem (lined with a blanket!). There are also cat beds called 'burrow beds' that are good for pets who like to snuggle down in privacy.

Also, spray the cat's bed with a product called Comfort Zone with Feliway. This spray has no scent to humans, but to cats it smells like the oil that comes off of their foreheads, and comforts them, and makes the place smell familiar. This is also good when travelling or moving with a cat.

No, I don't think so. Is your cat using the litter box for the purpose it's intended for? If so, then something is seriously wrong, since cats are very fussy about their waste. Your cat might be sick, have a bladder problem or a kidney problem, and it's worrying about peeing while asleep.

Check how well the cat is eating and drinking water. Are they peeing more than normal? Go past it's normal napping places and check for the smell of cat pee. You might have to take your cat to the vet.

Good luck!

No, it is not.

If your cat is doing it right now, it may be because the litter feels cool, and it's been so blasted hot, not only in the US, but all over the place. You might try and figure out a way of making a soft, comfortable place for your cat to sleep on a tile or linoleum floor, or somewhere where it is cool. Cats don't generally like to sleep where they go to the bathroom.

The only time my cat did this, it was because he had a urinary tract obstruction. This is a VERY SERIOUS medical condition, which will result in death if not treated immediately. If you haven't been noticing the normal amount of urine in the litter box, get your cat to an emergency animal hospital or vet immediately.

If this isn't the case, there are many ways of dealing with cat behavior issues. Of course, since cats do what they want to do, none of them work. But you'll feel better trying. :)

I have 4 cats of which one is the momma and the momma cat has always been close to me, sleeping my lap, in my bed, never getting on kitchen counters, Now she is getting on the counter, laying in the litter box and avoids getting my lap, I also believe she has lost some weight. She seems to get along with the other cats, but avoids them now.

No.
But the litter box is either cooler or the cat is uncomforable with the rest of the house. Cats LOVE something familiar. I've known of cats who were sick, I mean really sick choosing to stay in the litter box. Is their environment hot? Is there something or someone invading their house that upsets them; i.e. another cat?
Cat is either there to be comforted or something is not right.

Mine hid in it once for fun, he looked cute - but never slept in it.
Find him one of those cute cat beds that are like tents to sleep in. He must like to feel safe & secue.

Of course, keep the litter box clean each day. :)
