nickelodeon, aka nick or fat boy or portly fellow, is a mini pin about 3 months old and his ears are unclipped....the problem is that the ends are puffing up like air bags and are painful to the touch...they feel a little warm too. I would assume it is an infection but there is no obvious injury. Initially it was only in one ear flap but now the other is starting to puff up as well....anyone have a clue what the heck is happening to my puppy? Please help

Has your puppy been shaking his head a lot recently? It sounds like he may have hematomas on his ear flaps. He needs to see a vet promptly. He either has an ear infection or ear mites that caused him to shake his head so violently, that he ruptured blood vessels in his ears. Also, the vet will have to drain the hematomas and put in the sutures so that they won't return. The underlying cause of the head shaking is the cause of the hematoma.

I've never see a dog have a hematoma in both ears at the same time.

Possibly the puppy is shaking his head due to ear mites, which will cause bruising or oedema of the ears, if it is ear mites it is easily treatable by the vet, I have a rhodesian ridgeback, and a boxer who have suffered from a similar thing. either way take the puppy to the vet.

It sounds like a ruptured blood vessel. It generally solves its self if the cause is stopped. It's usually over scratching. Dont let him scratch or bang them on things. If you can find any cause possibly been stepped on or some thing accidental and they get worse see a vet. Good luck

HEAMATOMA!!!! Bad bruising between the layers of skin!! WILL ONLY get WORSE w/out VET attention! Even w/lancing,may cause the ear to crumple from scar tissue.

See your doctor immediately, this could be a sign of a rare but serious ear infection that can make Nick go deaf. Please stop the pain!

its normal for them to get little knots on their ears if they have been clipped but since yours hasn't, you should defiantly go to the vet
