Well, I know myelf, that if I were in your shoes, I would try and find someone that lives close to you to help....someone that can come feed them, give them water, and even walk them when they need to be walked. You can pay someone to do that. Advertise in your local newspaper. Someone looking for a small job just to earn some money might be happy to help look after your dogs. I don't know what type of sickness you have, but is it so debilitating that you can't feed them daily and give them water? You say about a weight limit.....where do you have to lift them? Doggie steps are availabe now that you can buy for a small price. I know how hard it must be for you right now. You must love your pets so much if you invested so much money into them. Don't you have any friends or family that know someone who might want them....someone who you KNOW will love them like you have? Seriously, before you sell them, or even give them away, look at other options. These animals will be sad without you and you will be sad without them. Animals help us when we are sick. They are great therapy. (I just had to put my Lhasa Apso down because she had bladder cancer). I miss her like crazy....and I'm sure you will too. Please....talk to your family members and let them know how you feel. Hopefully, one of them will know just how much you love your pets, and be willing to help out. I'll be praying for you!

Find a dog walking service to walk them once or twice a day. I'm not sure why you have to have pets you pick up. If it's for vet trips, work with your vet to arrange a pick-up - or surely your family isn't that busy to help twice a year for that. If you want to let them out without too much trouble, use a run that reaches to your door. Chain and unchain the pets when they come and go. Make a list - what is it that you can do and can't do. Get help (probably paying for) what you can't do and do what you can. The can list may shrink and you'll need more help. I think only money is the limit - how much are you willing to pay to keep them? If you've reached that limit, you have only 2 choices - give them to a good home or sell them for enough to get a buyer and enough to weed out those looking for a good deal to just resell them. Good luck!

I relate to being ill and if my situation ever becomes too difficult I will give my pets to my family. I know them, I know their ability to care for my pets, and I know that I can still see them any time I want.
If that was not an option I would sell them. I know there are a lot of people out there looking for free pets to love but at the same time there are lots of people out there looking for free pets to have breeding stock from and that's just the reality of the situation. So I would sell them for a reasonable price that shows that I love my pets and value their lives. But not so expensive that a good, loving, family can't afford them.
Good luck. Just do whats best for you and I'm very sorry that you're sick.

I work in an animal shelter and i see this ALL the time.
Can you hire someone to care for them.. like do the lifting and walking, etc? That way it's easier on the dogs, they get to stay with you and you get to stay with them.
If you can't do that, please place them in a shelter or breed rescue. If they are purebred, contcat a rescue for that breed and they will most likely help you. Breed rescues are AWESOME- they have all their dogs in foster care (so the dogs aren't in cages all day) and are EXTREMELY picky on who they adopt out to.
Please don't place an ad in the paper or give them away for free.. that's dangerous. People may seem nice, but they can lie to you and say they'll take care of them, etc. and as soon as they get the dog home they can beat it, etc. and I am sure you don't want to do that.
good luck

Care for them as best you can, but if this is all too impossible, groom them up one final time and put them up for sale, or give them to a shelter. Not to be rude, but they are your pets and your responsibilty. Or, if looking for the best, most amazing possible home, go to puppyfind.com or similar sites, post your animals at what you think is a good price and let people respond to your needs. With popular and expensive animals alike, almost anyone wants to give them a home. Just remember to post your story along with each of the animals, so everyone will know what is happening. I wish you the best of luck with your impairment... and you can remember that you are in my prayers.

oh that's sad, it's hard to give up your animals. could you hire someone to walk them and do the stuff you can't do? If not them I would have to say find loving homes for them. You obviously care a great dead for them so don't need anyone to tell you that their well being comes first. I'd just try to home them with nice people you know or who live near by so you can see them from time to time.
All the best, I hope everything works out.

Have had a couple of dogs I would understand your reluctance to turn your pets over to just anyone. I know that most dog breeds have rescue organizations that help find homes for pets that are in the situation yours are in. That is where I would turn if I couldn't find someone I trusted from within my friends and family.
Do a search under the breed for rescue organizations and see if there is something in your area.
Good luck.

If I could no longer take care of them and had nobody to take care of them for me so I could enjoy them, I would be the best responsible pet owner and find them a good home.
I would NOT, however, offer them "free" or even "for sale" in the paper. I would INSTEAD find the closest breed rescue and contact them. www.akc.org has a click-on for breed rescue.
Those people are fanatics about their particular breed and would do anything to assist.
Good luck and I'm sorry you have to even think of giving up your friends--I know how much it hurts.

If you have friend that you think is trustworthy you could have them watch your pets and you can still see them. Also you can put up an add in the Vets office. The peolpe that take the time to bring their pets there are probably responsible enough to take care of your pets.

In ascending order depending on the size of the pet:
1) Toilet
2) Shovel/other large heavy yard tool
3) Shotgun
Problem solved.
