I have a Uniden TRU246 cordless phone that I've had for awhile. I replaced the battery about a month ago, and it was working fine until about an hour ago. The phone went dead, and when I placed it on the base unit to recharge, the base unit recharge light blinks instead of just staying on. Any ideas on the cause of the sudden problem. Of course, the "Troubleshooting" part of my users manual gives me no info. Thanks!

It's dead. Uniden phones have a nasty way of dying, all of a sudden. I had a different model several years ago (900MHz), and when I replaced the battery, it stayed dead. I replaced that battery and it came back to life for 14 seconds.

Try cleaning the metal contacts on the phone and base unit that touch together when you place the phone on the base unit. These contacts connect the base unit power supply to the battery in the phone. Spray contact cleaner works best (available at Radio Shack/Circuit City and other stores) but you could try varsol or rubbing alcohol. Also make sure these contacts are working properly (they sometimes are spring loaded and if the springs stick then the metal does not make contact).
