Look at the Star Alliance website for around-the-world tickets. I'm sure the other airline group (One World?) has them too. Basically they have rules to stop you repeating flights, and you have to be moving slowly in one direction or the other without much backtracking, and it's NOT "unlimited"...
You pick whether you want to include, say, South America or Africa too.
See http://www.staralliance.com/star_alliance/star/frame/main_10.html
IIRC the price was from $4700 US on up, depending on options. You have to get it through a travel agent, because the details and options are too complex to work out with just a web site.
Sounds like fun.

Sounds like a golden ticket to Charlie's Chocolate Factory to me. What I mean is, I have never heard of such a thing, but I mean it cost a lot of money to go to say France, but it would cost you jack to go to new york or something compared to that. Maybe a relative works for an airline company and that is a deal for their partner companies so when they use an international flight company thats not part of them, it pays for the fuel and stuff like that essentially reserving you a spot.

Im not sure about this.
You can definitely purchase multiple stop - round the world tickets. You select the destinations you wish to stop at when you buy the ticket - with various degrees of flexibility.
Best place to find out is to stop in at a travel agents and simply ask

$2500 for a international travel ticket?! what are you, joking me?
it takes about 1k to just get round trip from san fran. to hong kong! there is no way in hell that is reasonably priced. try adding another zero to the end of the 2500.

My ex boss bought one. It was more expensive than that. I think his was over $6000. You have to book everything in advance though. It's not something that you just fly to one spot and then go to another. You have to have a plan. That was 6 years ago, so I don't know if they still have it or not.
