Hi,

True enough, Singapore does have a total defence plan that's put in place.

However, a military defence acts as a very good deterrance against potential attackers. On top of that, of the 5 defences, military defence is the easiest to control by a central government.

Hope this helps.

As opposed to what? If you think Singapore would be able to defend itself against a Chinese invasion, then pass that doubie over here cause that must be some good $hit. The only reason China has not attacked is the agreement between the USA and Singapore. We will protect them and send all our money to them and they send all the junk they can make so we can buy it and fill our homes with it so we have to build bigger houses to be able to buy more.

What is there to understand?
Every governmental entity has an 'armed force' to protect the country.
The USA, Britain, France, etc.
Singapore is a governmental entity, it isn't part of any other country, so it has an armed force.
Just because it's a small area doesn't mean that it can't have its own armed force.

to a certain extent yeah. though we hv the most advanced systems and fighter jets in SEA, tink it is obvious we do not hv the ability to fight big nations given our small population size. advanced stuffs can only do so much.

it is mostly our alliance w bigger super powers that deters any enemy. the deterrance effect.. by such co-operation and our buying of advanced equipments.

still, i hope SAF's capabilities will never be put to the test.

thats what they are paid to do! what would a country be without its army? i dont know too mush about that country, but since there is no war in that country, i guess they must be doing a great job.

I don't think so. So far there were no wars for them to prove themselves. But I guess our government are preparing for them should there be a war.
