My first name is Slavic origin means HOPEFUL, and my last name has two meanings, ONE WHO TRIUMPHS, and the second is Celtic/ Gaelic FAITHFUL, it depends on which language you pick to translate the name!
Not necessarily true that your ancestor did came from that place, but it is possible. Considering that these days people marries from outside of their clan, so to speak, and some people do change their name, for so many reason. Who knows! sometimes the person themselves are unaware of the fact that their name has been changed.

Well my maiden name is Long, (English) it was changed from Lang, it's (German). My married names are Stricker (which is a rope maker) and Clarke is someone who can read or worked as a clerk. (The e was added in the 1950's by a family member)
Then there are other family names like Brewer, someone who worked in a brewery, Rhodes, which is a clearing of land, Van Ness- Spit of Land, Usually the names with the "ton" at the end of that meant a settlement of some kind.

Well mines Rush- but I'm never in a hurry . He HeHe!! Sorry- I think that last names used to be like what you did for a living or where you were from . But then some people immigrated to the States and changed their names a little to Americanise them. My great grandfathers last name was Shultz, he immigrated from Ireland, but they changed it the Shutt when they got here.
