First of all I don't think that you are even close to being like this. Of course God expects us to help ourselves as well.

Hell doesn't exist, and if you are selfish and don't care about poor and hungry people, then in your next life, guess where you'll be?
I don't think you are a bad person. You're just an Asker stirring the pot. Getting people riled up. This is like, the third question I've answered of yours- so are you pissing people off on purpose? There's a Karma for that too.
Blessed Be.

Is it wrong to want to better oneself, I don't believe so. Is God wanting his children to be poor in both spirit and in ones means? That answer would be no. But the difference is when we become selfish. Can a person be have wealth and serve at the same time? Can someone be poor yet have contentment greater than riches? The answer to both of those can be yes, and again it comes down to what we do with what we have and how we use it.

Being rich doesn't mean one has happiness, I have seen some very sad but wealthy people. Graveyards are full of them and their wealth means nothing to nobody now. Can I find true happiness and not have riches? Yes.

Will God condemn me for trying to better my family and situation? Does God want me to do without when there is need? No. It is about knowing the difference between being selfless, and not selfish. Being true to what I claim to believe, and to live by the faith in which I claim. It is about using the knowledge I have and applying it, that is true wisdom.

Since so many people are selfish and self centered and have never seen anyone who is not physically or mentally ABLE to help themselves, I guess you are in the majority.

For all those who ARE able to help themselves, I agree with you, get off your lazy butt and get a job.

However in some countries the people are purposely kept hungry and poor, for control purposes. In other areas there just are no means or ways to gain food or money.

Eternal Hell does not exist, but I would say you already are in a type of hell. Any separation from the divine is a hellish state of being.

Don't worry, in time you will care. Karma is the great teacher. Maybe in this life, or the next, you will be one of those starving people then you will know what it is like and hopefully gain compassion.

I pray you will find this boon soon as the joy of love transcends far beyond any earthy pleasure.

Selfishness is not always a bad thing but then neither is helping others. It's all about balance. If you need to provide for you and your loved ones first that is what you should do. And, if you feel you want to help others after that, then that is your choice. I don't believe you are bad, but that you are just like the majority of other Americans struggling to balance everything on their plate. As for hell, since I don't believe in it then I certainly don't believe you are going there.

We should care about everyone and love them because Jesus said "Love your neighbor as yourself". We should also be sensitive to hearing God. He may ask us to buy a poor/hungry person breakfast or something and if you hear Him and just decide not to do it, then that's something to be concerned about. Pray that God would lay a burden on your heart for these people and ask Him to help you stop being so selfish. If you pray about it are sincere in your prayers, you will not go to Hell. Just try to improve yourself.

It is an individual thing. You can't force someone to like anyone. The world is full of selfish types. You are who you are. They gotta like ya or they don't. Same goes for ya. Some people don't feel sorry for poor folks and some poor folks hate the rich. It is life. Move on.

My philosophy is that you should treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. If you were poor and hungry, would it bother you if no one cared? That's the question you need to ask yourself.
