There's nothing wrong with reading other scriptures, it's actually encouraged. By looking at other writings, you can understand why your religion is the one for you. Plus, it's always good to be able to respect and understand other religions.

Is it considered cheating to search for the answers yourself and not rely on a 2-3 thousand year old book? To be open-minded to the world and its possibilities? To question wether what you believe is 100% correct?

Not at all. In order to prepare for the enemy and defeat the enemy, you must first understand the enemy.

Keep in mind though.....

Isaiah 44:6 "I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."

God lets us know in that verse that there are no other Gods, so keep that in mind as you read anything.
