Indeed, Muslims view Jesus as a prophet, although Mohammed was the last prophet in their eyes. Not all Muslims make war, though it is said that the Koran tells them to spread Islam throughout the world, mostly through violence. But only the Muslim equivalents of Ned Flanders would actually go that far.

The problem seems to be that they consider Jesus to be ONLY a prophet, not God incarnate. Obviously, Christians have a different view. Interestingly, even though Islam teaches (and the Qur'an states explicitly) that Muslims are to accept the Torah and the Christian Bible as the Word of God, Muslims work around this by claiming that all those texts are "wrong" (ie, corrupted by man over the years), which allows them to "respect the beliefs" of the Jews and Christians, but not actually FOLLOW them. Of course, no religion justifies another one, since each one believes it is the ONLY accurate representation of God's word.
I think Islam is where Christianity was about 1,000-1,500 years ago - Muslim societies are run as religions unto themselves, and every activity is controlled or overseen by a religious authority. The Middle East is rife with "religion-states' whose politics are driven by religious zealots. (Israel is no exception.) Sooner or later they will evolve into more of a world view - I just hope it doesn't take 1,000 years, and I REALLY hope it's done peacefully.

Girl Wonder has it right- Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet too. Anyone claiming to be muslim and insulting Jesus is not a muslim.
