Gosh, I can't believe that no one has given you this answer yet. I've gotten two wonderful dogs from our local Help for Homeless Pets group. Also there is the Animal Rescue League and the Humane Societies. They will usually give you a dog for a minimal fee - $25 or so and also give you some assistance on the cost of spaying or neutering (which I highly recommend). Some of them are little puppies and some of course are older. The dogs are just sometimes abandoned and they are just as great as the expensive dogs you buy in the pet shops. Also, I found that somehow an adopted dog just knows instinctively that you have "rescued" them and they are so loyal. Good luck in finding a great pet.

Please try your local adoption center. You will be shocked at the quality of dogs you will find. Many people have to move and cannot keep a dog so they must take it there...even registered dogs. Some get a dog and then decide they do not want it and take it there. You can get a quality dog for a very nominal fee, which would otherwise be put to sleep, if no home is found. Please be very wary about cheap dogs. They are sometimes stolen and sold or not a good quality and have mixed characteristics. Good luck and be patient....the right dog may take a week or two to find....but it is worth the wait!

You can try adopting one, like a rescued dog at a local shelter. Although they might not be pure, the are as capable of love as any. If you are opting for a pure dog, try Puppyfind.com. I recommend Wire fox terriers... they can be a handful but are the best of all worlds. Funny, funny, friendly, beautiful, cunning, and overall lovely. They make good ratters and guard dogs.

If you can't afford to pay for the dog, how are you going to pay for his shots, neutering (the responsible thing to do) food, treats, food/water bowls, puppy pads (if needed) collar leash, I.D. tag if he gets lost or any emergency care he may need?
I am not trying to be rude. But these are basic expenses. Having a pet is a BIG responsibility. Too many do not take it seriously.

i dont know where you can find a dog thats cheap only if the dog is ugly it might be cheap.
