In a really nice box you could write 70 reason down on pieces of pretty paper what he means to you and why you love him so much, say things like No better dad this world has known, I love the way you make me laugh, I love you for been who you are, always caring always sharing; things that make him the dad you love so much, a nice meal out and a few hours spent talking to him once a week would be nice too, hope you make it special.

Put together a scrap book of news clippings memorabilia, pictures of the family friends, and what he did. If he had special hobbies, job, etc. use magazine pictures. That would be the best gift and you can show him just how special he really is instead of buying an expensive gift he doesn't need

What does he like to do? Is there anything that you can think of that he has never done connected with that? For example, I'm planning on getting my parents a trip on the Orient Express for their Ruby anniversary - my mum will like it for the luxury and treat aspect, dad because he likes steam trains.

Just think of something a little unusual connected with something he is into.

older people are not really worried about materialistic gifts..there is no value in that for them.their time is to short to enjoy watches etc.what they would love is if you make an effort to gather as much family and friends and have a great get-together in honour of his birthday...make it special and make an effort to get all the family there .....the comfort of having your family close is much better than a cheap bottle of aftershave...no money can buy the warmth of family love..enjoy
