I've always wondered if Vodka can cure the common cold. All of my friends say yes. Half of me believes it, half of me doesn't. Please explain if it does, and how it does. Thanks.

Never heard of Vodka doing this - but my husband swears I have the cure. I have an old family recipe that calls for a mixture of Southern Comfort, cranberry juice, lemon juice, and honey. You heat it up and sip from a large mug. We do this every time we feel a cold coming on and it never fails to work. The worst thing that could happen is it doesn't work, you get the cold. but if you drink enough of it you don't give a d**n! ; - )

I don't know but would lean towards believing it.

One time when I had the flu with a terrible fever, a Mexican friend prescribed 1 shot of Tequila while sitting in a hot bath - as hot as I could stand for 20 - 30 minutes. My friend guaranteed that my bed would be soaked in sweat by morning but that my fever would be cured and I would feel much better... it worked! I was able to return to work the next day a new person!

There is nothing in medical science to suggest that alcohol consumption cures a cold. In fact, *nothing* cures a cold.

All drinking alcohol can do is make you sleep a bit better, which helps you get rest. That is why you see some alcohol content in things like Nyquil.

I really don't think it's the Vodka I think it has to do with passing out getting a good sleep and you wake up without your cold and
vodka makes you sweat so the cold is being sweated out of your system.

No, it can't.

Alcohol, including vodka, dehydrates the body, lowers the temperature, and depletes the immune system. It is more difficult to fight off a cold WITH vodka than without.

No. But if you drink enough it may make you feel better. Try vitamin C and OTC cold remedies, rest and plenty of fluids. Hot liquids are always good at clearing sinuses and giving some relief.

Drinking alcohol will make the cold worse, because it depresses the immune system which in turn makes you feel worse. Rest and plenty of liquids will help better.

VODKA will cure anything that ails you. It's because people drink it with OJ or other juices.
