Labs are VERY naughty dogs. Especially when they are puppies. I own two right now, one yellow and one black, both girls, 5 months old. They're very smart. They will learn that you want them to go outside very quickly if you stay after them. My best advice to you would be put a doggie door in the backyard and make sure that the backyard is fenced. Labs are diggers, so make sure the fencing is strong, because they'll dig under it, especially if you leave it alone all day outside. Let it have free access to the house as well as the yard anytime it wants it. They're very sensative, yet intelligent. You don't have to be mean to them to potty train them. Get a magazine or newspaper and tap their butt with it when they potty inside. The noise scares them and they will learn. I just now got mine potty trained, so be prepared for it to take a while. It's not the best thing to put them in a small yard or small house. They need room to play and be dogs. But they need social interraction as well. It's not fair for them to be the only lonely dog. I would say wait until you get a bigger place, but if you must have one, at least give it a doggy door.

Sorry to tell you this, but a lab does not make a good "small house" dog...to much energy. If you want a big dog for a house dog, go with a non-hunting breed...our rotti was a house do(passed on 6/29/06), we now have a Great Dane. Any dog used for sports are not very good house pets, unless you devote enough time to exercise...this does not mean putting him outside for 1 hr...I mean 1 1/2 hr walks.
Good Luck!

You should take your dog out for a walk Daily !! No dog wants to stay in a small confined home all day !! If your dog is afraid to leave the house maybe you should give your pet a treat everytime they get that much closer to the door !! If your pet has problems going to the bathroom in your house than you should take your dog to obedience training !!

Bb taking the dog out, or try training doggie pads, that can be put on the floor, when the dog needs to go. But really a Dog like that needs their space.

The lab should be excercised enough so that it won't chew on anything in your new house. They are very energetic, and do get bored. As for potty issues well my dog goes to the door when she has to go. But I didn't teach her that. She learned on her own.

keep it penned in a linoleum floored area. get those door gates so he cant get onto the carpet. in a small house, if he pees on your carpets, it will smell forever, because it will soak through the carpet and into the floor underneath. hardwood floors, theyll be ruined. labs are bad puppies anyway, so id crate him for awhile, then once he is better, let him out onto like, the kitchen floor and get those gate things.

the best way i did it was watched both of my puppies everytime i was home. take them straight out after they ate and drank. if i was not at home they stayed in a kennel. never put blankets or weewee pads in a kennel because they will think it is ok to use the bathroom in their house. just take them out at least every couple of hours at night time. when i did this method they only had maybe 4 accidents in the house and a couple in their home.

merely went by way of this subject each and every week in the past. Have 6 Cavaliers and then accompanied a three hundred and sixty 5 days previous Golden Retriever each and every week in the past. What i did is as quickly as I introduced the hot canines homestead i stored the hot canines exterior on leash. Having a pal help me. introduced one canines out at a time to fulfill the hot canines. Then while they have been used to a minimum of one yet another could enable the subsequent canines out, so on, and so on. commencing with the main mellow canines first. Being which you're including a domestic dog, the small canines could adapt extra proper. The domestic dog heavily isn't too lots larger than the small canines. yet be careful however massive canines domestic canines don't be attentive to their capability and could prefer to play with the different small canines and could get rambunctious and could harm the different canines by risk. i've got already experienced my golden prepared to play with my one Cavalier. The Golden likes to gnaw on my Cavaliers decrease back legs like a lamb chop. My Cavalier gets upset and could cry and snap at him to warn the Golden he's being too tough. thankfully the Golden is familiar with and could decrease back off and could walk away in many cases. merely be arranged to oversee the hot domestic dog heavily and be on precise of it each and each time the domestic dog gets too out of line and rambunctious. extraordinarily while the domestic dog gets excited. he will run with the different canines as a p.c.. and could step on the different canines as properly. My canines have discovered to observe out for the golden and be attentive to the thank you to get out of his way while he runs at extreme velocity. In time your little canines will adapt to the massive family individuals member. The Bernese is likewise one in all my sought after breeds as properly. unusual twist of fate. exchange into surely questioning of adopting a Bernese Mountain canines domestic dog myself in the past being informed approximately this superb Golden that exchange into became into the look after. fortunate for me the Golden grew up with a small terrier blend and lived with the two his canines mom and dad as properly. So he exchange into already used to being around small canines. experience products that i exchange into waiting to rescue the type of candy loving canines however.
